The dad of one of my queens (breeding cat) is longhair but has only shorthair relatives in 5 generation pedigree - and he was the only longhair in the litter. But the gene carried through the generations and came out when he was born.
Not weird. It's how genetics work. That's why in real life you have a chance of getting a chestnut Friesian from two black parents provided both have a heterozygous extension gene
I used to do a bunch of apricot color breeding on a side account. Like 9 times out of 10 I'd get the old apricot, my luck with the newer ones isn't very good
