I guess it's how long they are in pain for, they can hide pain but other factors show like weight loss

Im rembering a part in James Harriet's book where he visited a farm for something unrelated & there was i think a ewe dying in a corner & James said he didn't think she'd make it & told the farmer to put her down
He said he'd let nature take its course
So Harriet snuck some pain killer to the poor animal & she slept for 3 days & then recovered

I was thinking along the lines of wild animals when I said that and I did say...seems to, because many do hide their pain.

When we dehorn our calves we supply a nerve blocker and pain relief for them. It's so much nicer than the old way

The idea that animals are better with pain is a very old school thought and it's becoming a best practice for vets to prescribe pain medication after surgeries.

Majority of animals hide pain and work themself to death to make owners happy, others are absolute babies and if they are sore they limp for days, which I'm glad my horse is an absolute baby so we can get stuff checked out instead of hiding shit

But I've also known many animals who were blatantly in pain after surgeries

Animals seem to cope with pain so much better than people do.

Nobody would dream of castrating a dog the way they would a calf. All animals deserve pain relief :)

I've been looking at new show jackets and I have noticed some definite trends.
What's with the three button vs four button jackets? The more expensive jackets seem to have the four buttons

And why are soft shell jackets so common, wouldn't they look really shiny or be really warm?

Eh, the 3 vs 4 buttons is more of an aesthetic preference for some people. 4 buttons makes your torso look longer, and I see it more in Dressage coats and in the jumper ring. 3 button coats are considered more traditional, and are more common in the hunter and equitation rings.
I actually really like the soft shell style coats, because the fabric is very breatheable! (Tho not quite as breathable as the mesh coats) Much better than the old-fashioned wool coats, now THAT was hot. And the shininess depends on the brand and the style. A lot of soft shell coats are no more shiny than traditional fabrics, while others have a little more glint to them, if you want to stand out ;)

I do eventing, and I like the 3-button show jackets better. The fabric for the soft shell is very breathable too.
