Hey all, Looking to buy a new jump saddle, anyone have any experience with the new improved Wintec 500s? Particularly reviews on HART vs wool flock? Otherwise, hit me with some other recommendations :) Thanks in advance!

Avoid wintec. They don't have a great balance to them and you can get a much nicet used saddle for the same price. I prefer wool flocked saddles as you can get them reflocked to fit your horse. One lower price high end saddle brand I'd recommend is the Luc Childeric. They are lovely lovely balanced comfortable saddles and everybody who has one loves them. Tad Coffins are nice too, though they tend to be a bit more expensive.

I recommend Henri De Rivel. Their new saddles are extremely nice and fairly inexpensive. Also have the interchangeable gullet system. I ride in the Equipe and absolutely love it

I have a Collegiate, and I am very happy with it! If you end up getting one I recommend getting an inner changeable gullet, that way if you get a new horse or what not you don't have to use a different saddle! I got mine 400$ used in great condition! I'll go see if I can find a picture... Also yes, AVOID wintec!!!! It ruins horses backs from my experience, also they wear down quickly. - Found an image from my saddle, ignore the dreassage pad lol Edited at January 4, 2022 12:55 PM by Zeberz Manor

I totally agree with the advice to avoid Wintec. I know they are budget friendly but you'd be much better off buying an old stubben for the same price. You may be able to find an older schlesse as well for fairly inexpesive. Check ebay, craigslist, FB market and local tack sales. Above all, make sure it fits your horse! Slightly too wide is always better than too tight. You can always add extra padding.

So funny you say this!! I actually just trialed a second hand Stubben, but it was ever so slightly too wide so I'm returning it. True, I probably could have padded it up, but I'd rather try and get a closer fit with something more adjustable I think... It was pushing down on his withers once I added rider weight unfortunately. I've been stalking every second hand place possible for good used saddles, but where I am in Aus they are as rare as gold!

Ahh, I feel the Collegiate reviews are so mixed! A horsey group I'm in on Facebook had a Wintec vs Collegiate post and all of the comments were strongly against the newer Collegiates and all for Wintecs. So conflicting! But Collegiates definitely look nicer 😍

Thanks!! Where I am in Australia, there are no local saddlefitters. Like, at all. Every now and again, a rep from the city will come out - but the time I had my last saddle adjusted I still feel like it wasn't 100%. As a result I'm tossing up whether HART or wool-flocked would be better dependent on not having a readily available fitter...

I think I might have to reconsider Collegiates! I tried looking for some second hand Bates but there are absolutely none around me at the moment... what model Collegiate do you have if you don't mind me asking? :D
