Makena totally froze as she watched Maverick take off his swim shirt. Scars covered his back, some more recent than others. She couldn't see his chest, but she didn't doubt there were more there. Maverick didn't hesitate to dive down, but instead of coming back, he just froze at the end of the pool.

Makena tried to move, but she was just frozen in the same spot, her eyes stuck on Maverick. Her thoughts raced. All she could think about was how much pain he must've felt when he recieved the scars. Why hadn't he said anything? He can stand up for her, but not himself? Finally, an idea came to her mind. Even though her and Maverick weren't too close, she still wanted to help him out, and take away the attention that he was getting, and put it into a bigger situation.

Makena pretended to slip, and twist her ankle, and let out a wail. She forced her eyes to tear up a bit, but not full on ugly cry, and she hollered frantically for their swim instructor. Before the instructor looked her way, she quickly twisted her ankle in a weird way, not hurting her, but looking as if it was broken.

Mav looked at Makena gratefully with a small flash of a smile before the coach told him to just put the shirt back on and help get the girl to the nurse,so he pushed himself out of the pool,pulled on the shirt and almsot instantly relaxed before he walked to Makena

"Just play along" he whispered and pulled her up into his arms so he could carry her "you go on with the lesson sir,ill take care of this" Maverick said and started to walk off,at some point he knew Travis would confront him either about the scars or Makena but he didnt care

Makena chuckled after Maverick walked out of the room, and the door shut behind them. "Okay, you can set me down now" She paused, and glanced at Maverick, "And now we both have an excuse to miss swimming-" She added as he set her down.

Makena leaned against the lockers, and looked at Maverick, with awkward eyes. "So, we gonna talk about what happened..?"

Maverick thought for a few seconds and sighed "you can ask one question but that is it" he said crossing his arms and looking at Makena,then the lockers behind her and eventually his eyes were just drifting aimlessly around the room,scanning the walls for points of interest,he had to admit it was painful to think about

Makena huffed, "I think I deserve two for getting you out of that." she added before sighing. "If you need somewhere to stay, my basment only has a few mice here and there..!" She joked, trying to lighten Maverick's mood. After a silence, she fixed her gaze onto Maverick's face and waited for him to give in.

"One question." He said firmly his gaze unwavering as he stared back at Makena "and im not Cinderella,i dont live in the basement with mice" Mav had a slight joking tone for a split second before going stone faced again

Makena huffed, and looked down at her feet. "Who did that?" She muttered. She knew a guy like Maverick wouldn't just let someone beat him. There must be something going on...?

"My uncle,hes also the one who called me earlier in our first class" he shrugged but didnt stop there,he had to tell someone! "I was twelve when he started,just hitting me over the head if i acted stupid but then he started punching me and the the belt..my dad didnt stop him! He just let me bleed all over the floor and then make me clean it up!" He yelled getting worked up "its not my fucking fault that hes a sadistic drunk asshole but i still get messed up for it!"

Makena tilted her head, listening to every word Maverick said. She could tell he didn't tell many people this, and that makes people go mad. She knew from expirience. "That's horibble..." She muttered, pausing a bit before glancing around. "Is it still happening?"

"What do you think!?" He asked with his head in his hand "he yelled at me today so when i get home..yes it will continue" Mav sighed sliding to the floor with his back pressed against the lockers
