Lieutenant Dwyer "Oh, so I'm Miss Perfect and your Prince Charming? Fitting enough," Glory lilted. "I could argue about anything, like the difference between Geology and Geography, but I can't argue with your statement. Something of a difference there," She corrected, feigning indignace. She tilted her head slightly at his answer, deciding against asking about his family. "What happened to Whiplash?" She asked, genuinely curious about his horse, hoping nothing bad happened to him. "Hey, I do have eyes, what you were wrong about was whether or not they're functional," She retorted. She let out a small sigh of relief as Flash spoke, and, holding the fish by its tail, chucked it as far as she possibly could into the forest. Something would come along and get a good meal, at least. She nodded and said, "Yeah, steak sounds good. Leo, do you have to know where exactly something is to conjure it? Because I left my wallet on my desk, would you mind getting it for me?" She guessed neither Leo nor Flash had grabbed any money, and Glory didn't want to dine-and-dash. She may not have had a good childhood, but she still paid for food, especially when their local butcher saw what was going on with Glory's father and helped her in any little way he could.

General Anubis AKA: Craptain Jack Spare-Ribs +++ "At least you think I'm charming." Leo drawled sarcastically, wincing slightly at her mention of the difference between Geology and Geography. He KNEW that. He ... misspoke. Badly. "Something of a difference." He repeated in a musing tone, mentally chiding himself for his mistake. How had he said the wrong thing? He wasn't THAT much of an idiot. Leo didn't have too much of a reaction to her question, but his gaze did darken slightly, and his face hardened a little. "He was killed in a stampede. Same one that put me in a coma for 3 months." He paused and smiled faintly. "I've been in a couple comas, rather normal thing for me." He joked half heartedly, his mind wandering back to the tall grulla horse he had always loved. Raised the horse from a colt, and it was viciously taken from him. Working with cattle always had dangers, whether it was other angry cattle ranchers or the cattle themselves. Leo made a face at her comment. "They are functional! What do you think, that I have them for looks?" He rolled his eyes, adding in an indignant snort, then took a good hold of the toasted fish and reeled back with his good shoulder, chucking the partially burnt corpse into the trees. It flew quite a ways, especially for something so light. "We-ell, if you explain it in a little more depth, it'll be fine. If I try with the information I have now, I may accidentally get the entire counter, so maybe give me a little more to go off of." He grinned, chuckling lightly. It did strike him that they should probably pay, and it also struck him that he'd have to get his own wallet. He closed his eyes a second before snapping his fingers, his own cow hide wallet appearing in his hands. "If I don't feel like I can get your wallet and nothing else, I'll just pay. Consider it a treat." He commented, sliding the rather small wallet into his pocket, then taking a step towards the road. Immediately, dizziness slammed into his mind, and pain shot through his leg. Swallowing down a wave of nausea, he tried to decide exactly how he was going to make it all the way into town without dying.

(Noooo poor Whiplash D: Stop making me sad for a fictional character, dammit!) Lieutenant Dwyer "Have I ever stated otherwise?" Glory retorted. Okay, perhaps she could admit to herself that yes, he was very charming, and possibly maybe also just the slightest bit h- nope nope nope Glory, DON'T think that, he's just a friend, same as Flash. It took the slightest extra second for his answer to register, it was just so terrible. "Oh god, that's awful," She said. "I'm so sorry you had to go through that." As he said it, a few things clicked into place. The first being that he'd likely come to Libobon around 16, like most everyone else, so he'd not only had his horse killed extremely young, but also gone into a coma. The second was the reason he was so reckless- he's dealt with so much pain, both physical and emotional, that he was likely rather numb to it by now, and death was a close companion he'd met many times, flirted with, and yet somehow never gave in to the promise of relief it brought. That alone was impressive enough, but then you add in the fact that he managed to stay so upbeat most of the time, and it just didn't seem humanly possible to Glory. She was rather caught up in her thoughts, and missed what he said until he answered her question about her wallet. "Hmm, the desk against the wall sort of between my bed and the door, where I keep the bandages- it's on there, left side." She grinned faintly at him and said, "No, I won't let you. If you can't get my wallet, then my crossbow might be easier. I'll just kill something, you've already done more than enough for me." She was only half joking, since she didn't really want to be in the woods, though she would go shoot a deer without hesitation if she had to. (jeez this took a long time, I sat and stared at my screen for a solid hour before I started typing >>;)

(I can tell it took a while- I cleaned a whole building, unloaded a trailer after getting home from a show, and took a forty minute shower before you answered xD I am AMAZING at coming up with horribly sad backstorys lol Just wanted to say, it took me exactly 14 minutes to write all this. I saw 12 seconds after you posted, and I started typing right away xD )) - General Anubis AKA: Craptain Jack Spare-Ribs +++ "I don't recall, but I have a feeling that you have, considering the amount of times you've called me an idiot outweigh the amount of elephants that ever roamed the face of the earth." He rolled his eyes, which quickly flitted to the forest as there was a Crack. His golden gaze hardened for a moment, as he had been expecting a Corrupted to come flying out, but it had just been a deer. He was distracted for a moment, but caught her horrified expression. Okay, well, mildly unhappy. "It wasn't one of my better days, that's for sure." He answered evenly, not giving any more emotion to the matter. He wasn't a very good Empath, but the ability, and his personality, including how guarded he was about his background, caused him to be amazing at hiding and twisting his emotions to make the world see what he wanted it to see. He had always been a master at that. Making the world see what he wanted it to see. It was weird how he felt so open most of the time, but it was just his cover, an outside piece. No one would ever expect an introverted person that hated himself and had dealt with far too much trauma- thankfully, all they saw was the goofy general who couldnt seem to walk a straight line. He'd much rather be seen as a clown than pitied. He hated being pitied- he made the mistake of telling someone one of his issues once, and the look on their face made him want to punch them. Pity didn't do anything for anyone. It didn't fix the problem. It was a worthless emotion. As Glory started speaking, he tried to visualize the space, his eyes flitting shut for a moment. He could guess about where the wallet was, he just hoped it actually worked. He was tired and in pain, so the ability would be a little hindered. "You won't, but you could. It's probably just your ego keeping you from saying yes." He snorted, shaking his head. "I forbid you from using your crossbow. It'll just hurt your shoulder more. If nothing else, we can just go the old fashioned way, and walk to get your wallet." Leo ignored the last part, taking it as a sarcastic joke. He was too hungry to care, anyway. And too in pain. However, it was mostly the breathing and the dizziness that made him irritated. He could deal with pain, but not being able to breathe just sucked. Plus, the world spinning 103,848 times faster than it should didn't help either. Edited at June 26, 2024 11:48 PM by Wild West Warmbloods

Flash Flash had drunk way too much already. He knew his friends had barely touched theirs but he had felt as though he deserved to treat himself. He was drunk, he admitted it to himself. He was laughing at every jab from Leo and Glory and couldn't think of a suitable jab himself.

(lmao I just need to stay focused xD) Lieutenant Dwyer "That's definitely not true, since more elephants have existed than words I've said," Glory retorted, glancing toward the trees and instinctively reaching for the knife that wasn't on her belt. Just a deer. One of Chad's buddies, probably. She looked back at Leo- ahh, that's how he dealt with everything. Shove it down in a box and leave it until it becomes too big an issue to deal with, but then what? "Yeah, that's one way to put it," She said, then sighed. "Y'know, one of the few things I remember about my Ma is when I asked for a Shetland pony, since they were so close. Her answer was, 'No lass, Thay git tairribly seasick.' I actually felt so bad about the idea of the little ponies getting seasick on a boat, I never asked for one again." The memory brought a somewhat sad smile to Glory's face. It was only a few months before her mother died, and after that, there were no chances of ever having a pony. Probably for the best, actually. "It's already loaded, so I think I could use it with one hand, but fair enough. You sure you can walk though?" Glory asked. Maybe a trip to town, close though it may be, wasn't a good idea. Plus Flash managed to get himself drunk. (Not me looking up if a crossbow can be used with one hand >>;) Edited at June 27, 2024 10:11 AM by KPH Equestrian

(I have a crossbow, and I have tried with just one hand. I didn't hit the target xD. Two handing it just gives more stability. I do have to say, though, deer hunting is a MILLION times easier with a rifle)) - General Anubis AKA: Craptain Jack Spare-Ribs +++ "It's called a joke, sweetheart." Leo drawled with a snort, his southern lineage coming through a little. He realized exactly what he said, and winced, as it might not sound normal to any other human. In Texas, every woman, girl, or child was just called sweetheart, ma'am, or m'lady. It was just normal. He guessed in the more normal society, that would be considered weird, but eh... he was weird. It would be fine. Someday. Small mistake, small consequences. He watched the woods warily for a couple moments more, then looked back at her as she continued speaking, nodding slowly. It was one way to put it. His head tilted slightly as he listened to her story... he assumed, from her tone and body language, that her mother was dead. It did make him feel sad, for her, but then again, he never felt the loving kindness of a mother, so how would he know what it felt like to lose one. "I did manage to understand your words, even though it sounded like you were choking, to me. Thay git tairbbly seasick" He tried to copy her, frowning slightly as he completely butchered it. For some reason, he could talk in a rather good Scottish accent, but when he tried to annunciate, it just sounded like he was dying. "Were you.. on a boat a lot?" He asked slowly, not wanting to push anything, but still curious. Getting seasick wouldn't matter if they were.. on land. So, he assumed she traveled on boat a lot, or maybe never stayed in one place? He didn't know. "Well, walk, probably not. Stagger and limp, sure." Leo answered with a wry smile, slowly looking over at Flash, who looked like he'd drank all his worries away. Well, at least someone was.. enjoying themselves. Leo took the moment to snap his fingers, a wallet appearing in his hand. "Walla." He handed it to Glory, then glanced at Flash again. "At this point, we may not be going into town, so I probably just wasted some energy." He joked quietly, already scheming about a different things to eat.

(Sadly I don't have a crossbow >>; Though I have all the means to make a sword...) Lieutenant Dwyer "If you say so, M'eudail," She said, using the Gaelic word meaning 'my dear', a somewhat common term of endearment. She laughed at his rough impression of her and said, "You don't want to hear me speak Gaelic then, it sounds even more like choking. Tha mi a’ tachdadh." Basically meaning, 'I'm choking.' She tilted her head at his question and answered, "No, we lived in Aberdeen, kind of on the northeastern coast, since my Ma didn't want to be far from the ocean. But since Shetland ponies are native to the Shetland Isles further north, they have to be either imported or bred on the mainland. Not many people had ponies around us, so importing would be the only option, and I thought they'd get sick on the trip there. Even though now I'm pretty sure they wouldn't mind it all that much." It was kind of nice being able to talk about her childhood a little, especially since he hadn't asked about her parents. She did find it easier to talk about her father than her mother, but it still hurt. "Better than collapse and pass out, I guess," She said. "Thanks. Yeahhh, and it's getting dark. Which, I don't mind, but I imagine you and Flash enjoy being able to see." Glory was sort of like a cat, able to see perfectly fine in the dark, but her friends would be at a disadvantage should anything decide to be cowardly and attack from behind in the dark. Plus, Glory was still unarmed, so even though she'd be able to see the attacker, there wasn't a whole lot she could do unless it was a fistfight, end even then she couldn't use her left hand.

General Anubis AKA: Craptain Jack Spare-Ribs +++ Leo arched an eyebrow, having absolutely no idea what that word was. Thankfully, even though he could have a very thick accent, he was 100 percent American. However, he did speak a different language... German, nonetheless. Since he wasn't Native American by any means, 80 percent of his bloodlines came from German folk. The rest was mostly Norwegian and a tiny bit of Italian. He snorted slightly as she spoke, shaking his head slowly when she uttered... gibberish. "No, you sound more like a goat dying now. Dying from constipation. Du bist nicht der Einzige, der eine andere Sprache sprechen kann." He added in a growly German accent, annunciating the perfect parts. He mineswell have had blonde hair and blue eyes, which was really the only thing he was missing from the normal German look. Of course, he was very American, but he did have a more square jaw and sharp, more angular cheekbones. It had just been passed down the line. The hair came from the tiny bit of British in his family... not much, but some. His mother had red hair, and she was almost 30 percent British. Barely anyone else in his family did, though. "Ohhhhh." He mused in understanding as she explained. That made some sense, he guessed. "Makes more sense than what I was thinking." He finally added with a slight smile, then paused. Gosh, learning German had taken forever, now that he came to think about it. He was rather fluent, mostly because he had met a friend from Germany when he was 7, and secretly had German sessions to the time he was... 13? 14? It probably didn't matter. ".... I'm not promising I won't do that." Leo warned with a wry smile, then nodded slowly. "I do prefer seeing, however, I can see rather well in the dark. Years of hiking. Plus, the moon will be sort of full tonight." He slowly looked at Flash. "Him, on the other hand? I don't know." Leo chuckled, then brightened slightly. "Hey, I do have soke pork leftover from... sometime. It's probably still good. I'll just have to warm it up- in the oven (old style, pfft)." He explained, starting towards the campus.

Lieutenant Dwyer Glory chuckled at his somewhat confused expression and said, "It means 'my dear' or 'my darling'- basically the Scotch equivalent of 'sweetheart' to you." She shook her head at his inslut about her language, though trying not to laugh. "Uill, tha sin mì-mhodhail," She said in Scottish Gaelic, basically meaning 'Well, that's rude.' She wasn't sure whether her father was German or just spent quite some time in Germany, but he did curse Glory in German on quite a few occasions, so while Glory didn't know what Leo'd said, she did know he hadn't insulted her. Not like she could've walked up to her dear ol' dad and asked, "Hey pops, do you call me every slur known to man in another language because your German or because Ma just wanted to stay in Germany a few extra weeks?: Her parents had traveled quite a bit, likely her mother's doing, as while she wanted to live near the ocean, she'd wanted to travel the world, see as much of everything as she could. She tilted her head at his response as asked, "Did you assume I was raised by pirates?" Well, her father could've easily passed for a drunken sailor, given the way he talked, sprinkling curses like spices over every sentence. "That's alright, I'm sure the wild hogs will make a good meal out of you since I may or may not be able to viscously drag you back," Glory lilted, glancing at the darkening sky. "Believe me, you don't see well in the dark. Can you tell me what color the night sky is?" She asked. Glory didn't see darkness as a hindrance, it was always there and she was aware of it, but it didn't turn everything murky and flat-looking. Instead, everything was an almost ethereal lightness, the sky which was black or dark blue to most people was a rich array of colors, blues, purples, pinks, yellows, and greens mixed together. She could show Leo the world as she saw it, but it was something she did so rarely she wasn't really sure she remembered how. She looked at Flash as Leo spoke and said, "He's gonna be pretty hungover tomorrow." She looked back at Leo somewhat dubiously as she said, "Sometime as in the last 3 days? I'd be fine not eating until tomorrow morning- I've definitely gone longer and don't want to risk food poisoning. And I'd kind of rather go grab breakfast with you again, if that's okay." She followed Leo back toward the academy, making sure Flash was with them, and watched the woods somewhat nervously. She wasn't entirely sure where Leo'd lead them, but followed nonetheless.
