Do they like their name: Rena thinks that her middle name is old lady-ish. It’s a family name. She chose Elizabeth as her confirmation saint when she converted to Roman Catholicism at 20.

• Katarena despises when people call her Kat. She hates it.
• Rena is typically what she goes by, it’s easier to remember and spell and it’s unique.

Do they like their nationality: Katarena loves Romania. It has always been and will always be home to her.

Do they like their birth city: Honestly, she thinks it’s a little overrated. It’s still home, but she often wonders why tourists come to visit it. It’s beautiful, she knows, but not something completely out of the ordinary.

How long did he/she live there: Rena’s father was in a profession that caused them to travel often, so they spent the first few years of her life in other countries. They returned when it was time for her to begin school, and she lived there from then until she and her best friend Viktor moved to America

Did they have a happy childhood: Not necessarily.

Middle School: St. Andrew Orthodox School

Describe their middle school experience: St. Andrew’s is where she met Viktor and Max. Their parents wanted them to get some kind of religious education so they sent them to the orthodox school. They were instant friends and very close. Rena was very popular because of her athletic success and her beauty and intelligence but she was the private person that she still is. Many knew of her but only one or two actually knew her on any deeper level.

High School: St. Andrew Orthodox School

Describe their high school experience: The same as middle school. She developed a reputation for rejecting guys that asked her out, which then caused many of the men to ask her out who wouldn’t have otherwise. She made it all the way through school without ever dating anyone, she wasn’t interested in that and had much bigger aspirations.

College: Rena intends to pursue higher education once she gets on her feet in Virginia. Because she has such a wide variety of interests, she doesn’t want to pay for college until she’s absolutely positive the career path she decides on is what she’s going to be happy doing for the rest of her life.

Do they play any sports/did they play any in school: Rena played pretty much any sport she could try out for. She played soccer for many years but wasn’t especially good at it, but she excelled in tennis. She also did gymnastics, swimming, handball, volleyball, and even some martial arts like judo. She didn’t get into riding horses until her late teens when she bought Hugo with no horse sense from an auction, the rest being history. She is also incredibly, insanely good at winter sports like skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, and so on, but never pursued them.

Mother's Name: Lavinia Suta (Albescu)

Relationship with mother: non-existent since she was seventeen or eighteen. It was extremely rocky before then too. Her mother is a very emotionally turbulent, mentally unstable woman who took out every problem she had on her children. It got so, so much worse after Ivan died. She began living at the Petrovas pretty much every night of the week. Sometimes she just used them as an excuse and went out to sleep in the woods or anywhere other than at home. Out of everyone, Lavinia has caused Rena the most trauma.

Father's Name: Andrei Suta

Relationship with father: Andrei was one of the leading fertilization doctors in Europe before he got brought into politics. He is now the mayor, which is part of what led to their rejection of Rena. When she decided to convert to Roman Catholicism from the Romanian Orthodox Church, they told her they could not love her anymore and threw her out. Because of the tension between those two religions, her parents decided it wouldn’t be a good look for the mayor and his wife to publicly own a Catholic daughter, even if she is their only daughter. He is gentler with her and more lenient than Lavinia, but still very, very cold. Maybe moreso disappointed. He causes her more pain because he is still willing to accept her if she were to convert back, unlike her mother who has sworn her off for good.

Sibling's Name: Ivantie Vasile Suta

Relationship with sibling: Ivan died when he was twelve and Rena had just turned fourteen. They were extremely, extremely close and it destroyed her.

Best friend's name: Viktor Petrova

Relationship with best friend: Viktor is the only person Rena is her true, full, complete self with. He knows everything about her and reminds her of who she is when she loses herself. He’s always been the one--the only one--to pull her in off the ledge.

Happiest memory of childhood: Any of her various adventures with Max, Viktor, and their friends. They did a lot of crazy stuff growing up that they can’t believe they did now that they are adults.

Most traumatic incident of childhood: Ivan’s death, or her favorite dog dying.

Is drawn to people who: fascinate her in any capacity. This is a broad group. She is attracted to the most obscure of people and becomes fixated on them, wanting to learn everything about them. However, she is also a very private and cold person and doesn’t really do well unless she is the one asserting herself and being the befriender. It really just depends on the day. If you get to know her on any true level, it’s just plain luck. The stars have aligned for you.

Horse #1: Hugo

Relationship with Horse #1: Rena and Hugo are two peas in a pod. They adore each other and they work very solidly as a team. They have had a lot of success together and are both very work-oriented.

How did they acquire Horse #1: Rena wasn’t even an equestrian, but she saw by way of social media that Hugo was in an auction and was going to be killed if someone didn’t adopt him. He was only about one year old at the time and Rena was sixteen, but she worked very hard to keep him and to raise and train him. In order to afford him and dedicate the time to him that he needed, Rena graduated high school at 16 with highest honors and waited to pursue higher education because her college fund had gone into his vet and care bills.
