I enjoy watching it but I have mixed emotions about the actual thing. A lot of those horses actually really love racing and it's really obvious in the way they carry themselves and run. Injuries are horrific but those same injuries easily happen in the pasture too.
There is abuse in any sport that includes money, which is all of them. I have seen it in rodeo, I have seen it in English sports. Quarter Horses, Arabians, Paints, no one is immune to it. What counts is speaking up and out about it.
Well plenty of folks here like it. And know actual people in the industry and that horses are treated well, so unless you have worked side by side with them, no need to diss
And how many from other horse sports? Most of the racehorse owners I know take genuine good care of their horses, they are selective about who cares for them even at certain tracks sometimes.
Racing thoroughbreds at tracks within HISA's jurisdiction saw 1.23 racing fatalities per 1,000 starts in 2023. That's a slight decrease from the 1.25 deaths per 1,000 starts in 2022
