Welcome To Birch Grove Acres A Breeding and Training Farm Birch Grove Acres is located in coastal California. A beautiful farm, stretching over 200 acres of lush pastures and forests and beach. Devoted to breeding, training and showing top class sport horses. When first established the farm consisted of two barns and an indoor arena. To clarify and summarize, we breed elite sport horses, we train those horses, we offer training and boarding for horses, we host annual shows and we also provide the ocassional equine clinic. On location vetrinarians provide our horses with the best medical care. The staff all love and care for the horses and the horses rule the farm. We invite you to be a part of our farms great journey, as we breed, train, and show our horses. |

Roles On The Farm Owner(Me): Owns the farm, what more can you say...Okay, the owner makes most final decisions, and in this case is very active with the running of the farm, the training and breeding of horses and making sure things run smoothly. Farm Managers: Help make decisions, oversee, assist and really make sure things run smoothly, and they manage the farm. Trainers: Different trainers are assigned to different tasks. Foal and yearling trainers are in charge of young horses, making sure they start out right. Starting trainers are responsible for teaching young horses the basics of being ridden. From there we have trainers of different disciplines. Breeding Managers: They oversee the breeding. Decide on matches with the owner, figure out little details, make sure everything runs smoothly and then gets cuteness overload when the foals arrive. Boarding Managers: In charge of who boards their horses here, what happens to the horses boarded here and everything in between related to boarding. Stallion Managers: They are in charge of making sure everything goes right with the stallions. They are in charge of which mares get bred (along with the stallions owner of course). Where the stallions go. What shows they attend, and how they attend. And other little things. Showing Managers: In charge of which horses get shown, where they get shown, how they get shown. They also help organize BGA's annual shows. Horse Owners: While most horses at BGA belong to BGA there are still plenty of boarded horses, broodmares, stallions, geldings, mares, show horses. The owners of the horses always make the final decision regarding their horse. While managers can advise, they can not decide. Horse owners are responsible for their horses! Broodmare staff: They are the staff specially trained to care for a broodmare's every need and wish. They care for the broodmares before and after they have their foals. Foaling Staff: They usually work in different places around the farm until foaling season, then they are always present in the foaling barn to assist broodmares. Stallion Staff: These staff are responsible for the full care of teh magnificent stallion on the farm. They should also always be maintaining and training a stallion manners. Stallions are BGA should be well behaved gentlemen. This may be a risky job... Training/Boarding Staff: These staff are responsible for horses under training or that are being boarded in the Training/Boarding barn. Foaling/Repro vet: Foaling vets are at the farm all year around to maintain the medical care of broodmares and foals. All around Vet: This vetrinarian is responsible for the medical care of all horses on the farm. They can (and probably should) have an assistant. Riders: Riders either come for lessons ocassionaly (in which case they will probably be side characters) or they have jobs on the farm riding and exercising horses. With so many horses its hard to make sure everyone gets exercise. (There are probably more roles, but I cant think of them, if you have any suggestions, let me know:) |
