Introduction

In Everfall, pegasi roam free. With their powerful wings, they soar the skies far above the land of their birth. However, the threat of war is looming. East and West are divided, and tensions are high. Recent land disputes and scuffles have cast a shadowy fear upon the two herds. Already warriors are gathering, watching and waiting for the battles to come. Will peace prevail in these dark times? Or will war terrorize the pegasi of Everfall?

Roles

This is the most prominent and respected position within the herd. The Leader can be male or female, and is in charge of protecting the entire herd. Their job is to oversee things and issue commands, all for the safety of the herd and its welfare. Once in this position, they must stay in this position unless they retire or die because of old age and/or injuries. This position cannot be challenged for, but according to herd rules the herd can force the leader to retire if there is proof that the Leader deliberately put the lives of the herd in danger.

~ Second in Command ~

The Second in Command is right below the Leader in terms of importance and prominence. The Second in Command is chosen by the current Leader whenever the position is vacant. The Second's main task is enforcing the Leader's commands, whether it involves warrior or scout patrols, important events, or even battles. When the Leader dies or steps down, the Second in Command automatically becomes the Leader and chooses the next Second in Command. Like the Leader, the position of Second in Command cannot be challenged for, but the Leader does reserve the right to demote them if a good enough reason is provided.

~ Elites ~

The Elites are members of the herd who are chosen for their outstanding skill in their own field. There are three in all, and these are chosen by the herd. Once chosen, they must be approved by the Leader in order to become an Elite. The main task of the Elites is to help oversee the herd and give their advice to the Leader and Second in Command in a council. They themselves have no ability to govern the herd as a whole, but they do have a limited command over others in their own field. Because of their prowess, they are usually well respected, and are often asked for advice. The individual title includes their profession. For example, a Warrior would become the Warrior Elite, a Scout would become the Scout Elite, and a Healer would become the Healer Elite. The Second in Command is normally chosen from one of these.

~ Warriors ~

The warriors are in charge of defending the herd and engaging in battle whenever the need arises. Warriors are usually stronger in terms of physical capabilities, with some exceptions. If a threat happens to emerge, the warriors are usually the first on the scene. While their job mostly involves putting down threats, they can also be commanded by the leader to attack enemy patrols and fight against other herds over valuable territories. When important times of the year come around, such as foaling time, the warriors are required to increase their vigilance and patrol more frequently.

~ Scouts ~

Scouts are the eyes and ears of the herd. Their main task is to look out for possible threats and report them to warriors and the higher in command. Scouts typically have leaner bodies and greater wingspans to allow for speed and agility. Because they must maintain a constant watch beyond the herd's borders, they switch with each other every couple of weeks, with one pair out at a time. A scout pair can be gone for a month until the next pair takes their place. When in war, they can also be used to scout out enemy positions and gather information on the terrain, weather conditions, numbers, etc.

~ Healers ~

Healers are the ones that look after the health of the herd. They take care of the sick and injured, and help mothers deliver their foals. They often have an extensive knowledge of plants, knowing which ones heal or cause harm. Healers are the least common of the three professions, but they are vital to the safety of the herd. In war, some go with a war party to help any who are injured in the fighting. Normally, they are spared in battles unless they join in the fighting. Since this profession does not require as much in terms of physical ability, younger pegasi sometimes choose to become healers because of specific physical limitations. However, this is not the case for all.

~ Mothers/Matrons ~

Mothers are mares that are nursing or expecting foals. For their safety and the safety of their foals, they often take a temporary break from their previous professions in order to care for their young ones. Usually, they resume their post after their foals are weaned, although there are exceptions to this. Some decide to become full time mothers and watch over other foals including their own. These pegasi are called matrons and they aid the mothers in any and every aspect of foal care. These mares are very well respected, and often help the healers in specific things such as delivering.

~ Elders ~

Elders are the senior, retired members of the herd. Pegasi normally become elders when they are too old to do the tasks required of them for their professions. They can also retire at a younger age if they have a physical ailment that hinders them enough in their profession. Elders are well respected in the herd, for their cunning and aged wisdom often helps the herd in difficult situations. Often, if the leader calls for a council, there will be a couple of especially wise and respected elders included in it, who aid the leader in decision making. They can also help teach trainees and even be special mentors to them if certain trainees need more instruction.

~ Trainees ~

Trainees are yearlings and two year olds who are training to become healers, scouts, and warriors. They are trained in groups based on age, skill, profession, and experience. If a trainee is falling behind, a special mentor trained in that profession can help train them. If a trainee is experienced or skilled enough, they may join in battles or scouting trips with older pegasi. Once they reach three years of age, they have a graduation ceremony where they are tested in their areas of expertise and become full members of their profession.

~ Foals ~

Foals are all pegasi who are younger than yearlings. They stay with their mothers until they reach one year of age. Until then, they stay wherever their family resides. When they are old enough, they will join all the other yearlings in a coming of age ceremony. In this ceremony, each yearling states whether they shall become a warrior, scout, or healer. They can still change their minds after this, but they would have to go directly to the leader and give a valid reason in order to do so. They are also required to wait until a year has passed, just in case their decision to switch is impulsive.

Thoughts on the current situation:

Taelos thinks war may be the only option for his herd's growth. He is not overly fond of the Eastern Herd, and will not back down at any threat. A true warrior at heart, he is willing to fight and does not understand the fear that war can bring for others.

Appearance:

Taelos is tall, standing at 17 hh. He has a fighter's build, muscular and compact. His body shows numerous scars from battles as a warrior, with a particularly large one running from the top of his left hindquarters all the way down to his hock.

Taelos' coat is a beautiful grullo shade with black legs, mane, and tail. His eyes are a sharp grey blue, clear and piercing. Taelos' wings are a large size, complimenting his grullo coat with dark navy blue feathers. He is most proud of his wings, and makes sure to take good care of them.

Personality:

Taelos has a warrior's spirit that is reflected in all that he does. He takes the leadership of his herd seriously, protecting the herd at all costs, even if it means losing his life. His steel loyalty and fiery demeanor are often difficult for other pegasi to handle, which is why he often spends great lengths of time by himself.

His fiery temperament can also cause him to get in trouble, especially in disagreements. He will rarely back up or turn his back on anyone who offends his honor or threatens him. In battle, he can often seem reckless, charging into the midst of the fray no matter how greatly he is outnumbered. This has brought him many injuries, the majority of which are tended to by his own brother, Caero.

Although he doesn't want to admit it, Taelos is very protective of Caero, and will defend his younger brother from any and all danger. Caero is often the only company Taelos has, and the two brothers are strongly bonded.

Unlike his brother, Caero does not want war. He fears it, fears the bloodshed and terror it brings.

Appearance:

Caero is shorter than his brother, standing at barely 16.1 hh. This shy stallion is noticeably leaner than his brother, with an elegant and lithe build. His wingspan is the the same as his brother's, but Caero's lean build causes his wings to appear larger. He has long, slender legs, and moves with an effortless fluidity. This trait has made him exceedingly swift and agile.

His coat is a light grey, similar in color to a light cloud cover. His flowing mane and tail are even lighter, snowy grey. His wings are a breathtaking icy blue, and his kind, shining eyes are the same color.

Personality:

Caero is a shy pegasus, and because of his silent personality he is often overshadowed by his older brother. He tends to keep away from large groups, walking and working alone and in small company
