The way I understood it was that if a stallion is down in a trait the mare should be up in it and vise versa

It should go both ways, but as a general rule you want the stallion better than the mare (so dont breed a EWW stallion to a WWW mare, etc)

I have a matching question for breeding. I was told that the parents traits should compliment each other. Is it better to have the stallions traits better the mares traits? Or for the mares traits to better the stallions traits? Or should it go both ways?
