I love it! One thing I reccomend is picking your light source(I like to do them from above like natural sunlight) and then figure out where all the big shadows will be :D
for example, I just sketched out in blue where big highlights would be, red is shadows :3

Payment Upfront Or At time Of Completion? July 12, 2017 06:13 PM

Hello again everyone! I know I am flooding Art Help with silly questions, and I'm sorry. But I need help with when to ask for payments. I prefer to be paid after I complete the order, but at the same time I have been having trouble with people not getting back to me after I complete their order. Some of them haven't been on for a few weeks. I don't like owing anyone anything, and if something were to happen that I couldn't finish their art, I don't want to take any ebs in advance. But, at the same time, I have put time and effort into the pieces and I don't want to do it for nothing. Opinions?

What I will sometimes do is complete a commission, but send the customer a link to an uncredited version, then send them a version with the credits after they send the ebs. I also have a rule where if someone doesn't pay me for a few weeks (and I pm them some reminders to pay me) then I will just auction off the piece, but I will also check to see if they have been on HEE since I Pmed them. If they haven't then I'll wait a few more weeks.

UPDATE: I changed it to this. Ho does this sound?

As of July 12th, I will not be taking any payment upfront. However, if I have not heard from you for 21 days after completion, it will be auctioned off. Thank you!

That sounds great! That's what I do, but I usually only wait about a week or two.

OR

on the flip side, just keep them until I have a few and do a larger auction thread.

You can also request half up front and half when it is completed.

If there is a lot of time between the request and you actually completing the art, you may want to double check that the member still wants the art and/or that the horse has not been sold. A lot of issues come from members selling a horse prior to getting/paying for the art.

If you ever run into anyone who refuses to pay for art or have someone using the art without paying for it, reach out to a Moderator and we'll help out how we can.

Or, when you finish the art, don't give them the art until they pay you. (just my opinion) XD
but either way I like! <3
