Drawing Pad Help! September 20, 2021 08:34 PM

Hey all!

I'm considering buying myself a drawing pad to further improve my photo manipulation art, I love the idea of them and with my mouse getting glitchy and mouse pad being a pain to draw smoothly with it really takes a lot of time to get my work done and frustrates me in the process.

Now I'm also a complete noob when it comes to Drawing Pads, which brand, or size or type I should be getting. Or what's best for what you want to use it for. So I'm hoping fellow artists would be able to help me here.

I'm on a Computer with Windows 10 and use Corel Paint Shop Pro 19, to do my work. I would like a drawing pad that works with this system and isn't too expensive (I'm good with buying used) and a personal preference, I like the drawing pad to replicate what's on-screen (If that's available). And If that's a price increase or something that I should know more about. Then any tips or advice would be great.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks, Enoki! I'll look into that one, it seems good.

Just a question, I looked up some other drawing pads. But don't know much about what makes them better than others. I forgot to mention, I have a price range of $200 Max.

Does anyone know anything about these drawing pads?
- Huion h610 pro v2
- Xp-pen deco 01 v2
- Huion HS611
- Wacom Intuos Pro or Wacom Intuos
- One by Wacom

They come up often when asking about drawing pads for cheap, or beginner and the like. So are they worth looking into, can you get them within my price range... an average price for new and second-hand?

I have a Huion Kamvas 13" in purple from the 2019 launch. It is a 'pen display' and was advertised with an anti-glare screen which mine is definitely lacking, but works fabulously despite that (I have to avoid overhead lights though).

I think I paid somewhere in the $250 range brand new with an extra cord, extra glove, and a promotional carry bag. Not sure on second-hand prices, but I imagine you could find them under $200.

I use it with a Lenovo Yoga 720 from 2016-17 I bought for college and the Adobe Suite. I had some minor hiccups with intially mapping the key binds to the buttons, but once I got it sorted out I haven't had anymore issues. The Huion software has improved in the years that I've had it and works very well. It may be clunky at first if it doesn't install the latest version right off the bat, but you can download the right version from the website. Only downside I had was the customer service sucks, I tried exchanging mine because it didn't have the anti-glare screen as advertised and just never got anywhere with it.

I also use it as a second monitor when I make my spreadsheets/do data entry and just "extend" the display, but it won't register the pen the same in "extended" mode, but that isn't really a big deal for me. Also if you have it on maximum brightness you'll need to have it plugged into an external power source because your computer might not be able to handle the power draw and the tablet will just cycle through turning on and off.

You can PM me if you have any questions about it.

Thank you a lot for this info Over the Garden Wall. I'll definitely look into that pad as well, and see if I can get one in my price range. I do like the screen pad, it makes the whole drawing process a little more authentic.

Never realised how difficult it was to choose a drawing pad until I went searching for one. But I'm slowly getting there.
