I definitely encourage you to try crazy things with art! :D (and please show me if you do) Ignoring the time spent searching for stock, the BG stock merges shown in my last WIP took over 3.5 hours. And I'm not yet done! It may take longer and the first few tries may not feel successful but it's so worth it in terms of creative results.

Thank you! Turns out I was too vague with composition in the sketch (I definitely need to practice making thumbnails/sketches!), but at least the colors were helpful for making the piece. I additionally have screen recordings of some of the sketching/painting process (before stock is added). If anyone is interested in seeing those, let me know! Otherwise, I'm only posting the process of adding stock. |

This is part 1 of the BG stock-adding process for the cave piece! This ~12 minute video is sped up 8x and covers 1.5 hours of actual work (excluding finding stock). Video: https://vimeo.com/somewhereahorse/rainbow-cave-part-1 
In the video, I finally get to use the "mesh transform" feature, newly added to the beta version of Krita (been waiting for this for ages). Because I started with a semi-formed sketch, my process for adding cave stock is mostly: color change, then clone pieces of stock onto my sketch (the video thumbnail shows a perfect example of this). Literally painting with stock, yes! |

I wasn't satisfied with how the piece looked at the conclusion of part 1's video, so the first thing I did was carve up chunks of the merged background, and duplicate them all over. I wanted to open up the space (although keeping the cave space small could've made for a more personal, intimate feeling, but I opted to go a different direction). And I wanted to let in some natural light (and actual vegetation). |

So I've been slowly rotating through 3 pieces (art shop order, collab, and this contest prize). I took the plunge and tried turning one horn into a cornucopia, with interesting results. Full size (very big): https://i1.lensdump.com/i/0xEF6C.png 
I have fun things planned for the background that will build on my story around the goddess Fortuna! This one will hopefully be epic but will take many more hours of work. Just modifying the horn and interweaving the fruits/coins has taken at least 2 hours, I believe. |
