He nibbled at the food for a bit, staring out the window. Then he frowned and looked at Amber. "You said your dad was rich, right? Why did you leave?"

Amber looked at the floor for a while without answering "I just- I" she sighed and took a deep breath "I don't like him, I much prefer being poor and happy than rich and unhappy"

Sage shrugged. "If you're happy then that's the way to go I suppose. Happiness isn't easy to find." He grinned. "I hate my dad too - I get it."

She side eyed him "what about you, what's your story?"

He shrugged. "My parents always hated me. My dad got mad and killed my mom when I was...I dunno, like 2 years old. I only know it happened because I saw it all unfold. My dad gave me the scar on my face when I was five. I ran away from home, figured out how to sew myself up, and I've been on my own ever since." He shrugged. "You're the first person I've ever really been able to trust." Then he grinned. "I mean, ya probably won't kill me in my sleep or anything."

She smirked slightly "what makes you think I won't?" She asked as serious as she could possibly get her voice to sound but internally she was happy he felt he could trust her. "Also what about your brother? Why do you hate each other?"

He grinned. "Rephrased: If you kill me in my sleep you're not an enemy so I wouldn't care." Then he winced slightly. "He was always on dad's side - going out of his way to hurt me and make my life as miserable as possible. I have no idea why he decided to side with my father, but my father was nice to him. They're working together to try and get me back home so my dad can use me again." He shrugged. "But I won't let 'em. I'd die before I stepped into that house, if you could call it that, one more time."

She looked at him with sadness in her eyes "use you? For what exactly?" she paused "if you don't mind me asking of course"

He shrugged. "Anything to get my dad more money, really. He's leased me out to people like I'm a horse or something, or had me kill people and take their stuff, which I had to then give to him. When I was younger he had me beg for money, but I usually just pickpocketed people instead since I refused to beg. I still pickpocket people, but mostly just for food or whatever I need to survive." He shrugged again and snorted out a dry laugh. "If I didn't listen I would get beat, of course, but that just made me fight harder. The thing that got me to stop was when my dad told me he would hurt my sister instead of me if I didn't do what he wanted me to. But she was sick and died anyway. So when I couldn't help her anymore, I ran."

Amber looked at the floor "apparently I have a younger brother" she said after a few moments of silence. "My mother is apparently happily married to I guess he is my step father and has a son" she sighed "clearly I mean nothing to her but I don't care anymore. I lost my emotions and feelings for close relationships the day I left my parents"

she looked at Sage "I'm sorry about your sister ...and... well your childhood"
