Believe it or not I have been attacked for being 4'8" and riding a Shire. The same Shire who, regardless of rider and their height, has 4 modes.
Stop. Eat. Slug. Backwards.

Leg length effects absolutely none of these.
Food does.

I have also been attacked for choosing to ride without stirrups. Because god forbid I fall off. Or worse.
Develop leg muscles.

Shires, to be honest, are my favorite draft breed and i'm 5'3 over here. I could care less of height but go with your bad self! I've always wanted to ride a shire so would people shame me based on my height for riding a larger horse? Probably.. but eh, I'd blow em' off.

Also riding without stirrups "oh wow, that's such a big deal!" It's 110% fine if you know how to do it correctly. I don't have great balance to do it and my mini doesn't cooperate cause he's a stinker but I don't see anything wrong with it. You've got muscles for heaven's sake, use em'!

Some background on my horse. She is a 21 year old Dark Bay (looks black) 16"3 Andalusian Mare who was trained up to 3rd-4th level dressage in her prime. She is very strong and forward, loves to run, which can be difficult at times. We don't know what happened, but asking for basic dressage moves triggers really bad anxiety which I am working on.

I've gotten yelled at for using the mounting block (There is multiple, it was empty, no one was about to use it. Apparently using a mounting block is just so wrong) I feel that it's eaiser on my body and her body as well!

I've also gotten yelled at for cleaning my horses stall too well. Yes, you read that right, it was too clean and made the others "look bad". In addition it is not my job to clean stalls, due to the circumstances I can only be at the barn once a week, or less, and the people hired do not do a good job. Therefore I feel that it is better to clean it in my own time, to my high standards.

Bareback, people always seem to judge you for it. Bareback is the best! I love it and most people call me bad for riding Bareback on occasion

Wasn't as much being attacked but a girl that was unable to canter started telling me that I was riding my own horse wrong and saying that her being strong is a lie even though she had never ridden her. That really upset me.

Dont worry about what people say, you need to know yourself what is ok and what not unless its really crule to the horses!

I have had a few issues with people either yelling, attacking me or just being mean!

There was a woman who came to my small barn who was wanting to buy one of my foals, well when she saw that my horses are outside 365 days a year round a clock she was saying that i was crul and a horse should be in a stable at night atleast or in winter, i have told her then that they have the option to go inside or be outside and when my mares are ready to foal i bring them in a stable for them to give birth and 24 hours later they back outside, she was going mental at me at the end i refused to sell her anything and told her if she aint happy with how i keep my horses she dont need a foal of mine, as iam a beliver in giving the horse a choice and not keep it in a stable unless they ill or about to foal. I have to add to this that i live in germany where this Open Keeping of horses is not that big most people keep their horses in a stable most of the time in a day!

Also one time when i was at a show with my Horse i had put a red ribbon in the tail which is here in germany )but i think its also all over the world) the sign for others to know that the horse will kick if you to close. Well i was getting my horse warmed up and someone rode right in the back of mine, so mine kicked her horse in the chest and made it bleed, her trainer went totaly nuts on me saying how i dare to come to a show with a dangerous horse like that, so i explaint and showed the red ribbon in the tail (which was not small and defently was not there to make my horse look more pretty) and that it was the other persons fault for riding to close to mine. He totally was yelling at me that he wants me to leave and that he will get me banned from the show etc., i told him to go and get the officials which he did, so they came and they actually where laughing at the man, cause they agreed with me and actually told the Man to leave the show.

But i do admit sometimes iam the one who gives people trouble for how they train their horse, or how their deal with things. Like iam not a fan of whips and spurs and seeing kids that are amatures using them makes me mad, cause they dont know that its not there to punish a horse you never ever punish a horse. And yes i do sometimes attack people with words if i see something that aint right.

Hey, I'm a new person on HEE but I saw this and it sparked my curiosity. To add to my own stupid reasons for being attacked. I have been riding for 8 years and I was always attacked for one reason or another; height, working my horse too hard, not cleaning up after myself, not appropriate clothing, etc. Well here's my worst experience and I think I handled it pretty well.

The worse excuse that ticked me off happened a month ago. My trainer/coach was helping me before a show and she stopped and looked at me and said "Maybe you would ride better if you didn't wear glasses."

. . .

I retorted back. "Well if you want me to be blind then sure just see how that goes." Now here we are today, I now wear contacts (not because of her comment) and we haven't spoken since. I got a new trainer/coach and she is really amazing. P.S mind you I did very well at that show so, -sticks tongue out- there.

I haven’t read through all of these but the main thing I’ve been ‘attacked for is wearing a helmet. I’m from Texas in an area that is mostly rodeo heavy and I myself just trail ride English and western. I usually wear my helmet 90% of the time I am in my horse, but always when I ride around town since so am in the city limits and I ride on the road a lot since even though my mare is rock solid bomb proof you never know how people are going to act driving.
But youÂ’d be surprised how many people make fun of you or think your less of a horse person for wearing a helmet. Especially people who donÂ’t ride l...

My instructor (who is also a horse trainer/breaker/re-educator)
Actually says the mounting block is better as it doesn't put as much strain on their backs
I'm 5'9 and all leg (14 so I'm still growing)
I could easily ground mount her 15hh ish standie yet she makes me mount using a mounting block

<font class="mainlineblack">Of course I don't approve of any attack on you as a person but I can understand attacks on the sport itself.
There are some practices in the racing sport some find appalling (like tying a horses tongue up or getting them into their starting boxes by force, using electroshocks on them etc.)

I'm not saying that the racing sport is the only sport form with problems concerning the treatment of the horses, but I can understand that some people (including me) have their problems with that sport.

There's an article from PETA about this subject....
