Plus the other reason why I didn't want to be a vet, is because I pulled out $4500 in loans for my degree, and it was 3-years(a year of prerequisites) vs $100,000+ in loans. I am also almost 30, so I want to start having a family, so I didn't want to be in school for 8+ years and have kids, I know it can be done, I just didn't want it

It depends on where you live, for example in WA the Rabies Vaccination is given at 12 weeks old and there is no need for a booster of that vaccination. So def check your state/Country laws and requirements for it

Rabies vac is part of the last set of vaccines for one year so typically around 4 months old

16-weeks for the first dose, then in 2-weeks(or 3) they get the other

Helix, you dont give rabies vax? Im not even a tech yet, just a pet nurse and ive given plenty of rabies vaccinations under the supervision of the licensed vet in the room lol

I think the hardest thing right now is finding a good vet. Majority of them are super busy and cant take appointments for months on end. Boomer went to a low cost clinic because it would have been months for them to see him if we booked with a vet clinic

But someone told me about vet tech 10 years ago, and I changed my path. As a vet tech, you do everything the vet does BUT 4 things: perform surgeries, prescribe meds, diagnose animals, and perform rabies vaccinations. OTHER than that,, vet techs DO it all. For a 2 year degree, you run the labs, the exams, monitor anesthesia, fill meds, etc

What I find ironic is if there is a shortage of vets, why are so many vets discouraging young people from becoming a vet? That happened to me. Multiple vets told me don't do it and ultimately made me give up pursuing that career.

We lost a dog because no emergency vets would take her :/ we had to wait until the morning and take her to the only appointment we could get and she had passed that night
