Sage shook his head slightly and shrugged. "Whatever. I'll eat anything." He was glad of the change of subject from his collar to food, because he wasn't sure how to answer that. A choker? Family heirloom? He didn't know, and he was glad to avoid the conversation. He watched the girl carefully, half waiting for her to try and poison the food or pull a knife on him. He doubted she would, but why would a small book change her from hating him to inviting him to her home? |

Max gave a chuckle and nodded "Alright." she said getting the water going and waiting for it to boil before she put the noodles in. Once she was finished she delievered his plate to him and sat opposite to him looking curiously at him like she was trying to figure him out before she smirked "Alright your turn... I asked you about your necklace... ask me something." she smirked as she started eating. |

The corner of his mouth turned upwards, just barely. "technically I didn't answer you," he pointed out. "But fine." He looked straight into her eyes for the first time, and looked at her thoughtfully for a moment before finally speaking. "Why are you being nice to me? Half an hour ago you were about ready to chew my head off and now you're cooking food for me." He was confused by all of it, and while he didn't know exactly what it was like to be mortal or a human, he knew feelings were complicated and didn't understand why she had changed hers so quickly |

"True... Technically I don't have to answer you but depending on the question... I might." She smirked looking at him her cheeks flushing a light pink when he looked her in the eye. "Well... Because you're not the jerk I thought you were." She said "At least I don't think so anyways... I mean you could have kept my sketchbook to yourself but you didn't..." She pointed out giving a small smirk "Besides... You seem like you could use a friend... And to be honest? So could I." She admitted. |

Sage blinked slowly. He hadn't been expecting that answer. But the more he thought about it, the more he realized that she was right. He chuckled slightly and shrugged. "Well...there's not much use I would have for your sketchbook. Can't even sell it for anything " He didn't really know how to respond to a compliment, so that was his way of accepting her invitation of being a friend. She didn't think he was a jerk? She had no idea what he was. He pushed the pang of guilt away and shrugged it off. |

Maxine chuckled "True I guess..." She shrugged "But still... That sketchbook is important to my work..." She said setting her plate aside and grabbing the book "If I get an idea I write or draw it... And I write down what my clients want for their paintings." She shrugged. "Not everyone would return it is my point..." She said flipping through it briefly before she set it aside again. Once they had finished she took his plate and rinsed them off in the sink before leaving them and returning to Sage with a sigh "You wanted to know why I'm working at that restaurant?" She asked "Because unfortunately painting... Isn't a solid job... Working at that restaurant is... And if I want to keep this place... I need a steady cash flow..." She explained "Other then that though If I had the choice I wouldn't work there..." She admitted. Roxie was watching outside glaring at Sage before she backed off this was what she'd warned them about... They weren't suppose to get close to mortals. |

Sage sensed Roxie there but ignored her. He shrugged once Maxine finished talking. "Well I don't blame you for working even though you don't like it there. It's better than the streets." He knew, he could speak from experience. "I have a job, but my, uh, boss, isn't the nicest. Plus it's more of a family thing so I don't get paid." Well, that was smooth. "A family business?" She asked curiously "Oh I know how that goes..." She chuckled "And how it goes when you decide to go against your parents... Mine we're not exactly happy..." She chuckled "They actually stopped all contact with me after I turned 18 and moved out officially." She shrugged "I don't care but being an accountant is not what I wanted to be." She shrugged "It's not my fault they're that petty." She shrugged. |

Sage snorted, amused, at her reaction. "Well, he's the person in charge of me I guess, but he's not blood family. Or, family at all. But I don't exactly have a choice to obey him." He wasn't lying, not really. Death was who taught him; his parents were just the people who fed him. Well, normal parents would feed and care for their children. His could care less about him. "A lot of people are petty for silly reasons." He subconsciously rubbed his fingers along the scar over his left eye, thinking about how he had heard so many people complain about things like how their coffee was cold or they had broken up with someone and were oh so sad. Their lives could be a lot worse. He would switch problems with them, any day. But he consoled himself by telling himself that Death would get them eventually. No one could escape him in the end. |

"I see..." she said "Either way it sucks..." she muttered with a roll of her eyes "But we've found eachother though haven't we?" she said thoughtfully watching him curiously before she glanced away "Yeah I agree... but like I said we found eachother now eh?" she smiled playfully bumping his arm "I'm gonna run to the bathroom really quick... but I'll be back." she assured him before she headed upstairs. Roxie flopped onto the couch beside Sage "She does have a certain appeal I suppose... but seriously Sage? come on she's a mortal... and you can't even be honest with her! besides how the hell do you think she's gonna react when she either figures it out for herself or you tell her? What? do you think she's going to accept you? just like that?" she chuckled "Please what you are is beyond her mortal comprehension..." she said rolling her eyes "Besides you can't protect her 24/7 so if you don't do it now another demon is going to..." she said snapping her fingers "Especially with this out now" she said as a wanted poster with Maxine's picture on it written in bold below it "Maxine Wixx, wanted dead or alive. Reward: 1000 souls." "Death himself wants her now... what do you think he's got planned for your little girlfriend? Dead or alive? My guess is torture... besides... you can't last long in the human world without feeding on souls." she reminded him "Get over yourself, stop this stupid act of rebellion and do what you were suppose to do." she snapped "Or else a far worse fate waits for her." |
