My dog was taught to pick stuff off the floor like keys. I put a bobble keychain on it so she could easily pick them up.
She also would bring the mail from the mailbox into the house.
She loved the small jobs.
When she was younger, she could also spend two hours running in the dog park or the backyard.

It made her feel useful, it made her calmer in the house, and easier in public.
She loved meeting new people, especially kids, and she was a BIG dog, so she was taught she had to lay down to meet someone new, and then she would present her belly for rubs (one of her absolute favorite things).
It made her think and respond accordingly to people.

She wasn't the most mannered dog - still would bark at the door and if she knew the person would jump on them and lick their ears.

Not all dogs are perfect but

Sorry for the whole rambling rant - training and behavior are a HUGE passion for me.

There are great clicker training podcasts. My favorite is Equine Clicker 101, as it gives a step by step guide to the session and also what to do for troubleshooting situations.

There's a few people who are on the Video Social Media who give training tips and ideas for keeping an energetic dog.
Like small things you can do is make meal time interesting and a challenge - scattering kibble in a towel and rolling it up, or in a ball, or a frozen peanut butter Kong.
Anything that makes them take longer to eat and have to use their brain.

Something mentally challenging is almost as energy depleting as something physically challenging.

Having a job can also promote self confidence in a dog.
Something simple like bringing you the re

Training a service dog was one of the most rewarding experiences I've had.
She loved having a job - from being a mobility guide, anxiety helper, and even household chores like putting dishes in the sink, garbage and recycling, and putting laundry in the basket.

Training is one of those things that is always happening - every time you interact with anyone, you are teaching them how to interact with you.
If you let a horse or dog take up your space, they will then you think that that's an okay behavior.
Sometimes sessions are about fun things like crawl and roll over, sometimes it's experiencing a new environment and relaxing, and other times it's going back to basics.
Have fun - do dog things
Work on manners - in th house
Work on tasks
You can't demand perfection all the time, they should be allowed to be an animal, but make it interesting and fun to do different things all the time. Even if it's something small.

A reddish tone would be a slight difference, and Sage was right- It would change the perception of her eye and skin colour too. She wouldn't tint her skin, that would take too much work, but maybe she could contour her face to change the look of her features. She'd seen women do it before, granted they were using fancy cosmetics, but they wouldn't been derived from natural items anyway. She decided that is anyone knew what to use it was Sage. "I don't think tinting my skin will be too useful," she explained. "But what if I just contoured my face for different features? I could change the angles of my cheekbones, my nose, the shape of my jaw. Would walnut bark do that, or is there something more effective that we can find before we have to do so?" She asked.

Hopefully they would be long gone by then indeed. Madrigal didn't imagine that it would take more than a week or two to get to the Range, but it would be a few days hike into the mountains, and they would have to find a good place for them to make their home. It might take a while to find the optimal spot, especially if they would be sharing the turrain with dragons. But in the event that one (or both) of them was caught, or they were hung up for some other reason, having supplies for touch-ups would be useful.

But it was getting late, and they needed to get some rest for the night. They could find the supplies they needed for the make-over in the morning. "It's getting late. We should rest until daybreak, we'll find the relevant supplies tomorrow. Should we take shifts to keep watch? I don't mind going first."

Sage hummed in thought in response to the girls suggestions. That might be useful...and certainly easier than trying to darken her entire body. He pursed his lips and nodded, cocking his head slightly as he thought. "we should be able to do that," he mused. "We'd just have to be careful how we apply it since it'll stain whatever it touches," he went on with a slight chuckle.
He did hope that they wouldn't be in town any more than a few weeks, but with his luck they'd have to stay a bit longer than that, so they'd stock up on supplies before then. It was better to be safe than sorry ..he'd learned that one a long time ago. And in quite a...not a great way. It was an amusing thought, though he knew the importance of stocking up on enough supplies.
He grunted in agreement with her comment about it getting late and then nodded in response to her suggestion. "That's fine," he agreed. "we can keep a schedule, if you don't mind always going first. That way we can have a sort of way of doing things when we settle in a new place or if it's late and we're both tired when we settle, or whatever," he suggested. "but if you ever want to alternate that's fine with me," he added with a shrug.
(I'm on vacation so it's a bit short.)

Enjoy your holiday!)

"I don't mind always going first. That is a good idea. This way we always know what the deal is, we won't have to argue each time it's time to get some sleep." Madrigal shot Sage a grin. She knew that wouldn't really happen, at least not whilst they were still getting to know each other. Although, she might just want to argue for the sake of arguing. Just to spice things up if it got a little boring.

Madrigal went back to polishing her knives. She liked them so clean, so shiny that she could see the details of her reflection in the blades. "Go to sleep, I'll wake you up in a few hours," she said, her eyes fixed in the sure movements of her fingers moving the cloth over one of her precious crescent moon blades. The other lay, carefully arranged with the other blades lined up on another cloth by her left hip. As she polished her precious crescent moon blade, memories of the past came flooding back, more vivid than usual. Probably the result of discussing it, albeit briefely, with Sage. The wounds that she thought had healed, obviously had not.

(Thanks)
Sage chuckled lightly at her comment and nodded. "Alright," he hummed. He didn't really mind when he stayed up....it was still better than not sleeping at all, like he was used to.
He nodded when she said to get some sleep and curled up next to the fire after laying down a blanket to keep biting bugs away. He curled up, definitely looking like a dragon, except he didn't have wings or a tail. It was amusing, a bit, to be completely honest, but he was soon asleep. He relaxed after a while, the worry lines softening and his face going to what looked like his own age, not like he was in his twenties. It always happened, at least I til he got a nightmare, which was pretty common. Hopefully, he wouldn't freak out too much while still getting to know madrigal. Letting her watch him was hard enough. Trusting was hard enough. Not that he didn't think madrigal could be trustworthy...trust was just hard for him, given his background. And trusting a person he didn't know super well to watch him while he slept....it was a big step. But it was also a necessary one, and he knew that.

Madrigal meticulously cleaned and polished her blades in front of their fire as Sage slipped into a state of unconsciousness, periodically looking up at the vivid starry night sky in admiration of their universe. Oh what an awesome sight it was to see, never would she get bored of it. The sounds of the natural environment washed over her like a warm hug and she turned her attention on each one in turn.

Falling asleep was an act of vulnerability and trust, she knew. It was why she suggested Sage sleep first. She flicked her gaze up to glance at his sleeping form, curled up and peaceful. Madrigal assumed it was the dragon in him that found that position peaceful. She couldn't imagine anything worse, normally waking up each morning to find herself sprawled out, her blanket twisted around her limbs. But to each their own, she thought.

Once her knives were shining as much as she could make them shine, Madrigal got up and searched for a reasonably chunky piece of wood. On her long journeys with the Ciradellian 'special forces', one of the higher ranking officers and someone she looked up to had taught her to carve to take her mind off their mission. In the beginning, she would overthink so much that, it would make her almost too sick to take on mission, on the verge of putting everyone else in danger of dying. Now, she wanted to carve to facilitate her reflection upon the last few days. So much had changed, and she could barely keep up.

Minutes later, she found the perfect piece. Only when she finished her carving some hours later, did she tuck the little wooden figure into her cloak pocket and wake Sage up to take his turn on second watch.

Sage had fallen into a light sleep right away. Surprisingly, the nightmares weren't terrible, though that may have been because he was just so tired after having walking all day. And, of course, the night before he hadn't slept too much. But whatever...he just appreciated it now. He needed the rest, and he knew it. His body just normally didn't agree, apparently. He slipped off into a bit of a deeper sleep for a couple hours after that, then back into a lighter sleep after a while. He wasn't consciously thinking, of course, since he was asleep, but he would be feeling much better the next morning. Or, whenever Madrigal woke him up, anyway. Probably rather early in the morning. Either way, he had already gotten better sleep than usual. He hoped it would last, though he doubted it would.
When Madrigal gently shook him, he unfurled himself from his warm little ball with a grunt, rolling over to stretch, almos tlike a cat....but it was more dragon-ish. He wasn't sure how to explain it really...it just happened that way. ANd it felt nice, so he didn't care that much about it. Once he'd stretched though, he moved to roll over, then looked over at Madrigal, stifling a yawn. "Everything's ok so far," he asked. He would have heard if she'd had to fight something, but still, it was good to check. When she confirmed everything was fine, he grunted and moved so she could have the blankets and lay down, moving to sit by the fire and watch...well, everything I guess. "Get some sleep then," he hummed. "We're going far tomorrow."
