Madrigal studied Sage for a few minutes, the movements of her hands stilling as she contemplated. Guilt flooded her chest. She'd meant it to be slightly humerous, though she would admit that it was dark, and probably hit too close to home for him. He had been traumatised, bullied for who he was, made to feel smaller than a grain of dirt when really he was worth more than all of those loathsome ruffians who had ever said anything bad about him put together. It broke her heart that he couldn't see that. "I didn't mean... I didn't mean to imply that you're some lowly animal." She sighed and lowered the knife and stone to her lap. "I admit, my choice of words was insensitive, I really didn't mean it that way. When I look at you, I do see a person. I see a beautiful person who is thoughtful, smart, caring, someone who is going to grow into himself, mature, and be absolutely magnificent. But I do not see a person that is fully human, and I never will. Because you're not." Madrigal leaned forward. "You are not fully human, Sage. You are way more than just human." She trailed off looked him hard in the eyes, hoping that he would she just how serious she was. "I have a dream," she said after a few quiet moments. "You are I are in the mountains. We have a place we call home, it's peaceful and quiet most of the time. Maybe there is one thunder of dragons in the area, maybe more, but we know them and they know us. We know the range well, and have maps we've sketched on various expeditions. Our past has lost its grip. Above all of that, we are happy." |

Sages pacing faltered and then stilled when the girl spoke up again. He cocked his head, listening, and was admittedly more than a little bit surprised at her apology. No one had ever apologized to him before, and no had ever come close to complimenting him or....she'd just said the dragon part of him was a good thing. Wasn't it bad? Wasn't he an abnormality? She didn't seem to think so. But everyone else had. But she knew him best. But could he trust her? It was a struggle, and now his head was whirling in circles. Though, he eventually figured out he needed to actually respond to her. "No...no, it's alright," he said, almost sheepishly, not used to responding to stuff like this. "I mean....you could have said a lot worse," he pointed out, trying for it to be a joke but really he just sounded ....tired. And he supposed he was tired ....tired of everything that he'd been out through. Tired of all the thoughts rolling around in his head that he didn't want there. Bad memories. He met the girls eyes when she looked over at him, and he immediately stiffened out of habit, though he soon relaxed again. Her gaze was mesmerizing...but comfortable. That was it. He felt comfortable around the girl. He did trust her....even if it wasn't the smartest thing ever. He felt a light blush cross his cheeks at that realization, and soon nodded along with her dream. "It'll be a lot of hard work," he murmured. "I hope you're ready to work at making that come true," he hummed. He wasn't sure if he could ever be truely free of his past, but he could certainly try. |

Madrigal shrugged. "You gotta put in the hard work to reap all the benefits. I've never been scared of the tough stuff, God knows I've done more my fair share in the past," she said, and resumed her knife cleaning. She finished the one she was on and picked up another, and then another. The passed the time polishing her blades, and when she got to her crescent moons, she handled them with delicate precision. A gift from someone she'd once loved, from someone she's once called a comrade in arms. They were the biggest reminder of her past, but also the biggest reminder of her freedom and what she'd done to get it. She would never willingly let them go. "Let's take a look at the map and plan our route from here. I know some of the areas that are patrolled by The Overseer(*) that we need to avoid, and we'll need to cross at least one border. We should make sure we choose the path of least resistance, so we don't get kidnapped, arrested, or killed." She paused what she was doing and retrieved the maps from her pack, laying them out on the floor so Sage could see them. "I'll be honest, I know a fair bit of the lands this side of the Continent, but my force worked between Ixiria and Ceradell so we travelled mainly through the Ixirian and Ciradell desert lands. My trip to Dihsa was my first trip West, and this will be my first trip North of The Ixirian Empire." __ *A brutal military commander for the Ixirian Empire I made a map of The Continent because I was procrastinating studying, just what I sort of had in mind. (XD, it looks really cool!) Sage hummed lightly at the girl's first comment and nodded. He knew well enough about hard work...he'd certainly worked much harder than most to get where he was at. The sound of her sharpening her blades didn't seem so intense now that they'd calmed down a bit, and instead knowing they had prime weapons was strangely comforting, even if they could be used on him at some point. She had plenty of blades...he only had his dagger. Well, and whatever natural weapons he had...he'd already figured out the claws and teeth. He grunted and nodded when she suggested looking at the map and pulled it out of their bag, spreading it in front of the girl after he plopped down next to her. "If we follow this river, it leads through the smaller mountain range, as well as a few safe cities, before leading up to the larger mountain range at the edge of our map," he hummed. "I would suggest following the river for now. By the time we get to the smaller mountain range, we'll be ready for a break and can camp in the middle of it...no one ever goes in there, since the paths pretty hidden. I've been that far for....work." He shrugged. "After that, I don't know. Haven't gone past that smaller range." Then he looked up. " And once we get past the Kildrids, we're completely on our own." |

I thought they were just outside Dihsa XD but if you had a different idea I can edit and change what I've written)) Madrigal nodded along, weighing her thoughts. "Lynx is in the Ixirian Empire, lands that are controlled and patrolled by The Overseer. Cibs would be the safest point if we cross the border into Ixiria, and even that's risky. There will be slavers, especially with that direct route from there to Ixiria. Also, there's the issue of the bounty they have on my head... if they catch me, I will die. Slowly." Then she hesitated. "Did you go to Lynx before or after it was invaded?" Lynx used to be the smallest country on the continent, and because it was small and boardered 4 other kingdoms, it was an easy and beneficial target for Ixiria to invade during the height of the war they fought against Ciradell. Maddy had been in Lynx at the time it was invaded, when all her problems started. Lynx three years ago was very different to Lynx at present. "We want to be on the North side of the Kyldrid mountains, and if we are to avoid... risky situations, I think out best options are to cross into Nornich at the Green Bay point, cross at Tarby and travel to Kyldrid and into the mountains from there, or cross at Tarby and go straight in following the river that runs into the town. A road runs along the river into the foothills, but it's not active. It's basically a wasteland between Nornich and Kildrid cities, and I would say a body in the mountains would be rare." "That seems like a decent plan," he hummed. Then he shrugged. "Before, after, few months ago," he listed off. "I've gotten good at sneaking around security and whatnot," he admitted with a slight chuckle. Then he raised an eyebrow at her comment about them catching her. "What'd you do to piss them off so much," he asked a sort of amused tone of voice before looking back down at the map. She didn't have to answer ...he hadn't told her a lot of things either about himself. She could have her secrets, he supposed. She'd mentioned a small road...so he looked for that and pointed to a spot on the map. "This one? Or one that's not on the map," he asked. His trails weren't really considered roads, so those weren't on the map. But he had a good sense of direction, and he knew them well, so they'd be fine. |

XD Madrigal's eyebrows lifted at the revelations. "Wow, you're well travelled. What was it like on your last trip?" She asked, her mind wandering to her own experiences there. "Yeah, this road here that leads Tarby, acorss border into Ixiria, and here a few miles before Lynx there's another road that runs up north to this smaller town just across the Nornich border, which splits either right up here and leads to Kyldrid city or left here which follows this river to the Mountains. We don't have to follow it, in fact I think we should stay off it and cross the border into Nornich by Tarby and find that river from there. You probably know more of the trails in that area than I do. And we can see what we want to do as we go along, I just think it would be good to have a rough plan in case we get split up or something like that happens, and it's good to have direction. What do you think?" Madrigal sat back against a rock and crossed her legs. "And to answer your other question, war stuff. I was imprisoned there for a short period of time, and stuff happened when I escaped and now I have a price on my head." She gave Sage a tigh smile through the memories she'd rather have erased. |

Sage hummed lightly and nodded in response to the girls suggestions. "It's good to have some form of rough plan," he agreed, sitting back slightly. "I travel a lot. It's something to do, and a way I could get away from dad. I'd go to other kingdoms to shop if I'd been stealing too much at the village near us and people were starting to get suspicious. I couldn't stand to get caught ...the penalties for stealing at this age are worse than when I just lost my pinkie at seven," he noted with a slight shrug. The people didn't like him...law was that you lost a finger, but because of his rank and genetics, they could take his whole hand, or arm, which was pretty much a death sentence. They could take both hands if they wanted to, and leave him to rot. Or they'd just hang him on the spot....none of which he wanted to happen. He pursed his lips and nodded when she said she had a price on her head. "Maybe it would be a good idea to make up some kind of disguise. There's plants that could dye your hair maybe," he suggested. If she didn't want to, that was fine, but he was good at going undetected...he could help if she let him. |

Madrigal eyed Sage's hands. Indeed, his one pinky was too short and ended in a stump. She'd noticed before, but hadn't really noticed. "I'm sorry about your finger," she said, eyeing her own hands with all of her in-tact fingers. She'd never been caught, and therefore had never had a digit shortened by a blade. She knew it was harder for him, but with his differences so subtle, she wondered about the audacity of society to be so... obtuse. She couldn't think of an appropriate word in the moment, but one would come. She cocked her head at the suggestion for a disguise. That cuold work, she guessed. "I've changed a little since they had me last. I was younger, my hair shorter, althought it was always braided up, like it is always braided up now. What do you suggest would work, exactly?" Madrigal was up for a change if meant less probablility of her being recognised. |

Sage glanced over at the girl when she apologized, and shrugged slightly. "Oh, I don't really mind anymore," he admitted. "It doesn't really affect me. It's losing the whole arm I'm worried about," he grunted. That, or a hand. One or the other was pretty much a death sentence for him, since he'd always had to steal and hunt....things that really took two hands. Then he chuckled. "Besides, I kind of deserved it. Seven year old me got to be too much of a smartass." He'd gotten cocky once, and as a result he'd made a stupid mistake. But he'd learned his lesson....and he'd never forget it. He cocked his head slightly and pursed his lips, pondering for a moment as he studied the girl. "Keep the longer hair, but use a kind of leaf to dye it. It'll make it more of a reddish color, sort of like copper. But it'll make your eyes look like a different shade too. And we can use walnut bark to darken your skin tone if you really wanna go for it all," he mused with a light shrug. Really, she didn't need too much if she was as young as even a few years younger....she'd have changed as she matured, after all. But it was better to be safe than sorry. "none of it's permanent...after a couple months we can reapply if needed, though hopefully we'll be long gone by then," he added with a slight chuckle. |
