I started with WBs and it was literal hell. But, as a player with money and experience they might be a good choice for you. If you find pons boring, a more difficult breed might be good!

Guys, I need y'alls input. So I am getting bored and broke doing this PON project. I am still pretty broke, but it's okay. I want to switch back to WB since I had better luck with them. What do y'all think? Feel free to check out anything in my barns to give better input, pm me too, just incase I don't pay attention to the chat and don't respond!

I can confirm from having to chase an escaped calf on horseback that a long backed horse will have a hard time maneuvering on tough trails. I'll add a picture of the horse and info on her at the bottom. This was back in 2017 when our adventure occured. We had brought home a bottle calf from the sale barn, and after getting it into a stall in the barn, it broke out a board and escaped, ran across the pasture, through the barbed wire fence, down the road, and into the woods. I got my horse, Blossom, and headed down the road after it. My mom was on foot following tracks. I had just joined her at the treeline near a river, which was 4 to 5 feet deep and 20 to 30 feet across, and we hear a splash. I get over the crest of this incline and see the calf swimming downstream. I take Blossom down this near vertical slope about 15 feet, which she's excited to do because she loves to pursue cows. She hops in the river due to a horribly rocky bank and swims after the calf. We almost catch up to it, but a mile down the road from our house is a brand new bridge with erosion boulders, and Blossom couldn't get past them, so we had to climb the slope, cross the bridge, and the calf had disappeared by the time we made it to the other side. We searched for a few more hours without Blossom, but didnt find the calf that evening. It rained hard overnight, but a neighbor called us the next morning. Our calf was found and we did catch her. We still have her and she's now a total lovebug.
.
As for the long bodied horse that went through the trees, in the river, and up and down the banks, her shorter backed daughter has a much easier time on extreme trails like that. Blossom is a granddaughter of Hollywood Dunit and great granddaughter of Docs Solano. She was intended to be a reining horse when she was young, but her owner when we was first started decided they would rather make her a broodmare, and she gave them a few super nice reining foals. Blossom only had 30 days of training, went a few years without being ridden, and was perfect when I got on her for the first time since her first 30 days. No hint of bucking and she neckreined pretty well that first ride after we got her. She is super easy on the ground, good in the arena, and a fantastic ranch horse. She lives to work cows, but is very nice and peaceful when penned with them. She'll be 19 in a couple months and is due to foal within the next 6 weeks. She's had a few foals and is a great mom. She's about 15.2. She runs an 8.5 second time on a standard AQHA stake pattern. She used to be able to run an 18 on larger barrel patterns and her fastest pole time was a 24. She's pretty much retired and her 6 year old daughter is slowly taking her place as the go to cow horse. Blossom is the first horse I've ever showed and made an amazing first horse to partner with. The picture is about a month old. She was somewhat fit in April, but viewed from the front now, she is W I D E. I need to take a lot of pictures tomorrow. This is the only good picture I have of her that isn't with tack or at a 3/4 angle. I can't even find a good picture of her daughter.
.
Edit: I would like opinions on my long girl. I like how she's made and she's very comfortable to ride, but she never places well in the county show halter class, not that I expect her to with older horse topline though. We do every other class, so we enter the halter class to practice setting up and standing before showmanship and to give Blossom a look at the arena.

Maleficent, I like him! ^^

It's a bit tough due to lighting (parts of his back melt into the tin in the background XD) but it appears he is roach backed. He seems to have a steep hip angle but lighting might be messing with me XD. I don't mind his shoulder, but it definitely appears he has higher withers. Nice neck on him. Long backed. Looks camped under on the front and maybe out in the back. Looks like he has longer-ish pasterns as well. I do wish he had more muscle, particularly in the gaskin (the meaty part on the front of the area between the hock and butt).

He's awful cute though! I bet he was wonderful in the showring!

I dont have a proper conformation shot of him, I will likely try to get one tomorrow.
King Gooseberry Blue or "Zed". Bred for cutting/sorting/ranch work.
2002 AQHA gelding out of Hancock. I know he ties in at the neck weird, maybe a bit ewe-necked, but I'd like other input.

Beltane, she is darling!

Mid-backed. She looks mutton withered (little to no withers). She's shorter necked, and possibly camped out at the back end. She does appear to have longer pasterns too. Other than that, all I'd ask for was a bit more muscle! She's gorgeous and well-balanced! :D

It's hard to find saddles to fit her, because she's also narrow. Tell ya what though she'll teach ya balance lol

Oh. I bet! Not so much saddle fit, but my Arabian is so petite, I've been switching in and out of headstalls and breast collars constantly to find one that'll fit his narrow build. XD

Very cute! He seems to be a bit goose rumped, but that's common in Quarter Horses. Slightly camped out in the hind end, but that may just be how he's standing. Slightly longer back, nice flat legs, does seem base narrow or base wide, maybe slightly btoed in at the front. More upright pasterns, which could cause some extra concussion, his neck definitely has some goofy going on, lol. Just makes him more adorable :)

Meet my small but mighty steed! This is Eddie. He is a 10.2hh Shetland pony Gelding. He is somewhere around 16. This along has done everything, Speed, Eventing, Halter, Fair, Liberty, Jumping is still his favorite though. Sorry for the lighting, just snapped it well he was eating. He looks incredibly camped under here, and he might be, but it's definitely not that bad, lol.
