Madrigal nodded as Sage gestured to the left. Her mind automatically ran through a list of everything they needed and where she would get what. She observed the arena. It was busy for this time of the morning, but not packed. The guards would still be a little bit tired, but their day had just started so they would be alert enough to catch her stumble. So, she thought, I must not stumble.

Before heading on her way, she turned to Sage. Grabbing his upper arms, she looked him sternly in the face. "Do not get caught. Do not die. Do not leave me alone." She squeezed her hands once and then took a step back. She nodded at him once, and before the foreign feeling in her chest could coil any tighter, she turned and headed into the mess of people. She did not know the boy well, but she wanted to. She liked his company. Hell, he liked him. But she was also scared. Trust, she had once been told, was the first ingredient in a recipe for betrayal. And losing someone she loved hurt a hell of a lot more than just losing someone. That, she knew from experience. Madrigal shook her head, trying to dislodge the thoughts. Now was most definitely not the time for this trainwreck of thought.

Scanning the row of stalls ahead, her mind rearranged the list of things they needed into the order of destination. She'd acquire a bag first. As soon as she thought about it, she saw the perfect one. It was hanging on the outside of a stall, on the end of the hanging wrack. It was made out of leather and thick fabric, the straps sturdy. It was plain- a lot plainer than any of the others on display. It was inconspicuous, and the trader hopefully wouldn't notice it missing until much later. Madrigal waited for him to move inside the stall with a client before making her move. It was swift, and less than a minute later, she was walking away, a strap over her shoulder, the bag under the cloak. From there, she gathered the objects by necessity and size, the smaller things going in pockets, the larger things going in the bag. She spotted the vendor that sold the olives the day before and her mouth immediately started watering. She made her way over, smiling at the lady behind the table, and proceeded to pick three tasting olives from the plate that was offered to her. Madrigal closed her eyes for a moment, reveling in the glorious taste. When the moment was up, she thanked the vendor and left. She had only a handful of items left on her list, but they were the larger and harder items. She needed to snatch them in the chaos she knew Sage's plan would bring.

Sage stood there for a few moments, slightly shocked at the girl's response. Why was she worrying so much now? Well, he supposed he was worried too, about the girl getting caught...but she barely knew him, and really he had to admit he was pretty disposable. The girl was more than capable.
He watched the girl slip off into the crowd before shaking his head slightly and stepping lightly off in his own direction and picking out the things he knew he needed. Well, what they needed. They were both using this stuff he supposed. He wandered around for a bit before he realized that he'd spent enough to time for the girl to get what she needed, other than the larger items, which he also needed to grab.
He took a deep breath before nudging one lesser ranking person into another one and then minding his own business. They started yelling, and once the fight broke out sage had a good leeway for causing some trouble. Luckily his hair covered the thin smile on his face, because he was enjoying causing so much trouble for the guards.
Soon, everyone was in a riot, other than a few higher ranking people who went about their business. He threw some gunpowder he snatched into a lamp and it blew up, so that only added to the confusion. He slipped off and grabbed what else he needed and then rejoined the girl, glad to find her alright.

Sorry, I wrote two replies and each tome my acc timed out when I pressed submit *_* Been really busy at work but here it finally is!!)

As the chaos broke out around her, Madrigal took the opportunity to slink between the stalls to get the last items from her mental list. People argued and scattered, reminding her of the one time she blew on a nest of ants when she was a child. The image filled her mind and Madrigal giggled, and then laughed out loud. She clamped a hand over her mouth and looked around, but the sound went unnoticed by those around her.

On her way back, Madrigal snatched a jar of olives from the stall abandoned by the nice vendor girl. Guilt attempted to claw its way up her spine as Madrigal walked away, but she shook it off. This might be one of the last times she ever had olives, preserved as perfectly as these were. As she reached beneath her cloak to slide the jar into her bag, the ground shook with an explosion. Madrigal lost her grip on the jar, and then there was glass everywhere as she staggered forward, grinding some of the bigger pieces beneath her feet into the cobblestones. She gasped at the sheer disappointment of the olives that were now crushed into the ground by other feet, a strangled cry escaping her lips as she tried to save one. She scrambled forward towards an untouched olive, bumping into the legs of hurried individuals, and grabbed it before someone's show could crush it into the stone. But as she clutched it in her hand, Madrigal realised that she couldn't eat it. It was probably covered in glass splinters, let alone whatever else had made its way to the market floor. A string of curses left her lips at this realisation. Getting up, she marched on to find Sage, the olive still clutched in her hand. Face like thunder, eyes ready to sear into his soul, and her tongue ready to give a good lashing, she stormed up to Sage who was waiting for her at their meeting spot, and threw her olive at his chest.

She opened her mouth to growl at him, but in her anger, nothing came out. Instead, she stormed right past him, bumping his shoulder with hers in a huff.

(Lol, it's all good! I've had that happen quite a few times myself haha)
Sage only waited for a moment before he saw the girl coming. He rose to his feet, since he'd taken to sitting down and leaning against a tree trunk. He was going to say something about how things went...what all he was able to find, but she seemed furious so he shut his mouth, not willing to make her madder if that was even possible.
He stared at the olive in surprise then she threw it at him, pretty confused as to what the girl was thinking. Admittedly, he wasn't the best at figuring that out, as the only person he'd really ever spent time with was his father, and that was never a pleasant experience. He shied away when the girl stormed past him, the back of his mind expecting a blow to come out of nowhere. His breath hitched too, and once he'd backed up, he froze for a moment, feeling as though the girl would turn back and let a hand fly. Hit him. But...the blow never came.
After a moment, he realized he needed to follow the girl, so he put his hands in his pockets and flopped his hair over his face to step forward and follow the girl from a distance. What if he'd made a mistake, befriending this girl? Leaving the woods he'd grown up and survived in for so long? This was familiar territory...a place where he felt a kind of safety. Where he was by himself. He'd allowed the girl in, allowed himself to foolishly begin to like for the girl...to enjoy caring for her. But now he felt like that just wasn't bound to last, like the fates somehow just wanted to see how much a single person to bear before they broke. No, that wasn't right, he'd broken a long, long time ago. But for some reason, he was still here. Still fighting. And he didn't know why. He looked up to watch the girl storm through the forest before shaking his head slightly and looking back at the ground his feet tread on. Maybe the girl had just pretended to befriend him. Freed him of his father to try and drag him along with her, but in a fashion he was nothing more to her than a type of packhorse. He didn't know of what rank the girl was, but she was higher than him, for sure, and she had the right to do that...would this just turn into another bad relationship? With him being the brunt of it and stuck somewhere worse than before? He honestly didn't know how to answer these questions, so he just kind of swallowed hard and turned his brain off, pushing everything back. It felt like it was all about to spill over...like if he added one more drop to the pot everything would leak out the sides. No, he couldn't let that happen. He clenched his fists inside his pockets and grit his teeth, wishing emotions weren't so...potent. He wished he could just feel nothing, live his short life and then be done with it all as soon as possible. It had been nice for a while, but he shouldn't have gotten his hopes up about anything...it seemed like nothing good would ever come his way. And he definitely didn't want to put any more hopes on the girl. It was better to expect the worse...that way, nothing would disappoint him and he could just take it in stride like everything else. Bottle everything up, hide it , keep it away.

Madrigal marched the first half of the walk, her anger like a wall between herself and Sage. It was only when her frustration dissapated that she was able begin rationalising. Her mind strayed to Sage, and immediataly, the guilt over her harshness, no, her childishness, crashed over like a wave. She wondered what he must think of her, throwing a tantrum over olives, even if they were the most delicious things she had ever tasted. She threw an olive at him, like... Oh God, her actions weren't so dissimilar to those of his Father's. Madrigal didn't know much about the man, but he'd seen him punch Sage once and that had been enough to know. The poor thing was probably traumatised from his childhood. He probably had things thrown at him all the time, and she'd gone and thrown a damned olive at him. How trivial her anger was. How trivial the whole situation was. They were only olives, after all. Sage was a kind and caring human. A companion, hopefully. Too ashamed to apologise, Madrigal carried her guilt with her until they reached his cottage. She checked for fires(there were none), and then turned to the male, struggling to meet his gaze.

"Look, I'm really sorry for how I behaved. In the moment, I acted unfairly, and I apologise for my childish behaviour. I was just really sad about my olives, which I dropped with the explosion, and I was angry with you because you set it off. But it wasn't your fault, it was just bad luck." Madrigal ran an hand through her hair, looking away. She wasn't good at apologising. Hell, she rarely apologised to anyone, but she knew she needed to now. She had a feeling that it was crucial to the future of their relationship.

Sage followed the girl back to the cottage, thoughts running through his head a million miles an hour. He was confused, more than anything, really. Though, he was wondering about how this would all turn out. He was going along with this girl willingly...he could always leave if things got bad, right? He could always come back here, where he knew he could live at least somewhat decently. He just kind of stared at the ground the entire way back to the cottage, knowing the area well enough to just watch the dust sprinkle around his feet softly. He stayed well behind the girl. not willing to get any closer and upset her further.
When the girl turned towards him, he stopped and cocked his head at the girl slightly. Admittedly, it confused him, even more, when she started to apologize. He'd never heard that one before...normally he was the one who would mutter a sort of apology and take off since he was at the brunt of literally every situation. He blinked slowly, thoroughly confused at the girl's apology. It was genuine...he could see that. But really, that just made it harder to understand.
Eventually, though, he realized the girl was struggling, just a bit, and he did have to respond. So he just kind of shrugged it off. "You don't have to apologize," he sighed finally. He didn't really know what to say, how to act. But, he did like the girl, and it seemed almost wrong for her to be the one apologizing. "There's more olives in the pile of things we grabbed between the two of us," he added on eventually. He'd noticed the girl had liked olives, so he'd thrown in a few jars when he had a chance to grab them. He had relaxed by then, though...the girl meant him no harm, he could figure out that much.

Well, the 'tonight' part never happened, but here it is now XD)

Eyes turning slightly misty, Madrigal looked up at Sage. "You got me olives?" She asked hesitantly, her brain taking a moment to click into gear. When it did, she stepped forward and threw her arms around the boy, squeezing gently for a moment before letting go and rushing to rummage around in the packs he'd brought in for the olives.

It took a bit of sorting, but at the sound of glass clinking together, she found a jar. Slowly, savouring the moment, she twisted the lid open and plucked one out, popping it into her mouth. Madrigal moaned, the burst of flavour more than she could have hoped for. She took one more(her last), and then held the jar out for Sage. "These are so good," she groaned, eyes closing to savour the moment.

When Madrigal put the jar back, she made sure to screw the lid back on tightly. She took started sorting through what they had, putting them into piles to sort into different bags. Sage would carry one, and she would carry another, each with an even split of goods in case they got seperated for whatever reason. "Can you check on the meat outside?" Madrigal asked Sage as she began packing the items into the bags.

Sage shrugged slightly when the girl asked her question, stiffening slightly when she ran at him. He hadn't expected a hug, but after a moment of shock, he realized that he sort of liked it. He wasn't sure he'd ever actually hugged someone, and he had to admit that he didn't mind physical touch so much when it was a kind gesture. Gentle. He supposed that he could learn to enjoy it, since the girl seemed to be a sort of touchy-feely kind of person. Well, compared to him at least. But, he did trust the girl, so maybe he could learn.
He couldn't help but grin when the girl got excited about the olives, though. He briefly wondered why he felt so happy when she got so happy or excited...though, he liked the girl, so he supposed it was just nice to see her happy rather than upset. He was still a bit wary of showing his emotions so much though, so he bit his lip and forced his expression back into the same emotionless mask he normally wore. He'd always been punished for showing any sort of emotion...and punished harshly. They'd only ever hurt him, so he didn't feel the need to show them now. And if he was being honest, he was still a bit scared too. If the girl knew how much his father had affected him, what he was really feeling...would she still like him so much? He didn't want to ruin what they had.
He took an olive when the girl offered him the jar, and popped it in his mouth. He didn't really know what the girl saw in them that was so incredibly delicious...they were good, yes, but he was grateful for any food he got so really nothing was better than anything else. Of course, the girl didn't look like she'd ever really been pressed for food either, so he supposed she could have a bit more liberty to explore foods and find a favorite. He nodded and grunted when she asked him to check the meat, and wandered outside to poke around in the strips of what was now jerky. He tore off a piece of one strip and popped it in his mouth to see if it was done, and when he decided it was fully dried, and gathered it all up and brought it back into the cabin. The girl had split things pretty evenly, but he did move a few things around so he had the heavier load...he could carry more than the girl, and he'd rather carry more than have her struggle, lag behind, and get lost or hurt or...well anything bad, really.
