Anya just buried her face deeper into his neck when he curled around her, kind of oping to hide what was a very upset expression. She should have been used to this by now, the very notion of him leaving, but it was still... hard to hear. She was quiet for about a minute before giving a soft sigh. "Sage," she started quietly. "What if... if I turned around and said to you that I was so fed up with life that I wanted to die, what would you do?" She asked in a kind of murmur. It was a bit of an odd question, and not a very nice one, yes, but she was a little curious to his answer in the topic.

Sage looked down at the girl and blinked in surprise before sighing slightly. "Well, the first thing I'd do is ask why I suppose," he murmured. "And then I'd drag you and your mother down to the doctor's to bring your mind back to normal," he muttered in a sort of blunt answer. But if she wanted his honest answer...he'd give it to her, it just might not be what she wanted to hear. "And then I'd probably never leave your side again, which is probably where you're going with this," he admitted. But really, the girl had no reason to think like that, and she had no idea what it felt like, so he wasn't really paying full attention to what she was saying. He was listening, yes, and he knew she was trying to word this right, but...they led very different lives and had very different fates. He'd much rather die in her arms than alone somewhere. He knew it was hard, but surely she could try to understand at least some of it?

Anya nodded quietly and kind of rolled over so that she was looking up at the ceiling. "That's right. And, you know, I've already tried all of that and more with you," she murmured after a moment. "It hasn't worked," she whispered before shaking her head. Atticus made a soft whine from the corner as he woke up, and Anya just sighed before crawling over Sage to grab the baby, who just blankly stared at her sleepily as she placed him on her lap before pressing a light kiss to the boy's forehead as flopped forwards onto her chest tiredly. She gave a weary smile before patting the child on the back. She didn't mind Sage's blunt answer, it was pretty much what she was looking for... he'd have done pretty similar things for her. But, their lives were so different... even if she did feel the way he did, then the way they'd go about it would be entirely different. The way they'd... fix... her, would be different, and there might not even be a way to help Sage. She'd try, but in the end, she knew she couldn't do much for him, and he'd already told her that... you couldn't keep someone around if they didn't want to be around.

Sage sighed and watched Anya as she went over to grab Att and flip back down. She was right...she'd done everything she could to help him, but he supposed some things just couldn't be fixed. "Maybe not, but Anya...you have kept me here, pretty willingly, for a while," he murmured. That part was true too...he hadn't wanted to leave the girl, he'd wanted to stay with her. Sure, part of his fighting to stay alive was because he had to finish his job, or because of Charlotte, or whatever...but really that was fooling himself into staying with Anya. They were things he'd wanted, yes, but really he just wanted to be here with Anya in the end. He knew it wasn't likely to happen that way, but...the girl was the best thing in his life right about then. Att and Charlotte he loved too but that was a bit different. "You've made me...happy...and really that's more than I could have asked for," he told the girl gently. It sounded so cheesy, but it was genuine, and true. Hopefully the girl would get that.

Anya shook her head slightly before leaning back into the pillows, little Att pretty much blacked out on her chest. She knew he was trying to be honest on her, and that he didn't want her to worry, but in truth she didn't know what else to do. It was a bit hard to come to terms with. "I... know," she murmured, though it didn't sound too sure. She knew her loved her, and she loved him just as much back, but it was hard to be so sure about it all when Sage still felt the way he did. But he couldn't help it, and she knew that. Her head rolled to the side slightly before the rest of her body shifted away from him so that she was looking out the window, though she was still clutching onto Att, who was now fast asleep on his back with one hand clutched into her thumb. "You just deserve to be happy, Sage. You keep in saying that you are when you are happy when you're with me, but if that's the case then why do you still want to go so badly? Or why are you still so..." she trailed off a bit before going silent... she should just leave it alone, trust that he'd been genuine, but she was definitely struggling to just accept it all. If she kept on going on about it the way she was, then they'd just end up getting in an argument, and that just wasn't what she wanted.

Sage winced slightly when the girl turned away from him to look out the window. He half reached out to put a hand on her shoulder, but then drew it back and just stared at the ceiling. "I suppose....I just know I'm going to end up losing you, too," he whispered. And that terrified him. Sure, he could come back for a visit at night, hoping hit to get caught. "And I'll lose Att and Charlotte...I'll go back out there and it'll be the same old thing, day after day, like nothing has changed." He shrugged slightly and sighed, closing his eyes again, almost painfully. He didn't know what to say, or how to say it...and he didn't expect the girl to understand his ramblings, but he hoped she did. Hoped she understood he loved her, but he just couldn't deal with it all any more.

Anya sighed slightly before closing her eyes as he spoke. "You're not going to loose us..." she whispered quietly before shaking her head. "Charlotte and I - we're always going to be here when you need us," the girl murmured, clenching her jaw slight as she thought about it. "And Att is going to go somewhere real nice before you leave... he'll be in good hands..." she trailed off again and the baby beside her cooed softly in his sleep, a tiny smile flashing across her face. At his second motion, she just curled up a bit more. "No, Sage," she breathed slightly before her eyes fluttered open again, "you... things don't have to be the same the way they were. You don't need to go back to your father, and you don't need to keep on working at the tavern." She murmured quietly. And he would visit... she'd make sure he had all the food he needed, and money to keep him going even if he didn't want it. He didn't even have to leave... that was his choice.

Sage looked over at the girl, a small smile tugging at the corner of his mouth at the girl's determination. When she started talking about Att, his gaze slid to the boy, a smile crossing his face at the boy's soft coo. "I know," he murmured. He was silent for a moment, looking over at the girl as she spoke before sighing and looking back up at the ceiling. "It's all I know," he whispered. "I wouldn't know what else to do," he admitted softly. "I can't just stay here...not any more than Att can. We both know your mother would never allow it," he pointed out gently. "At least if I work, I'm passing the time rather than sitting around..." he trailed off, not really knowing where he was going with this whole thing.

Anya gave a slight nod to the boy before letting out a heavy breath. He was right... he'd just end up resenting her if he stayed, resenting his life more than he did. Sure, the slums weren't ideal, but that was his home.. where he belonged. The castle was no place for him... and she knew that. "I know, I know. You belong out there, not up here," she murmured gently before getting comfortable again, though she was still looking out of the window, out towards the slums. "It's your home," she finished quietly. She knew that he couldn't stick around just because she asked him to... if he did, he'd hate her for it. But really, was hating her any worse than him missing her? She didn't know.

Sage let out a sigh, almost in relief that the girl was aware that he was more comfortable out there than in the castle. Now, of course he liked it in the castle...Anya, Charlotte, decent food and sleep (when Att wasn't keeping him up, anyway)...those were all wonderful things and he did like having them. But...his heart would really always be up there. He was used to life being eventful, and sitting around like he did here just seemed so odd. He needed to be working, to be doing something...and here, unless he was training with the guards, that never happened. But Anya was at the castle, and so was Chatlotte...he rolled over so he was pressed up against the girl again, wrapping his arm around her with a tiny sigh. "I'll always have a bit of a home wherever you are too, though," he murmured. "My dead are just buried out there." Maybe it didn't make any sense...that was ok. It didn't have to make sense. Not much made sense any more. It just had to be genuine.
